battra92
I'm lucky that I never had anything stolen from me *knock on wood* but then I also tend to only hang around places I know and I'm not a traveler. When I take the rare trip to the city (once every few years) I tend to leave most stuff behind. When I was in Toronto (a city I shall never return to) I was aware of my wallet and my camera at all times. Say what you want to about cows, but at least they are honest and won't snatch my Nikon. schristian1
Carved his SSN on his camera? Now the thief has the key to his identity. Real smart move.
Jochen_S
My ex-girlfriends family had both a Praktika and a Zenith stolen from their home. If you're looking for a theft proof camera be sure to use a worthless no-name shoebox to built a pinhole...
pensacolaphoto
It may be more reasonable to follow a midddle road. I leave pristine Leica rangefinder equipment home [insured] when traveling and use instead user condition Canon rangefinder equipment with Canon lenses. The equipment looks old and is not shiny, and I use an old camera bag that is relatively small. I have it close to me wherever I go. If it should get stolen, I am insured. Brian
The consensus of this thread, which is not really surprising, is:

1. It's opportunity, not camera brand, that matters.

2. Insure your equipment when you travel.
