nolefan32
Okay, so its looking like time to mothball my 35mm outfit and get a DSLR. And as part of that, I also need to replace my ratty old Kiwi bag (are they still in business?). What bags do you guys recommend for a good all-around bag thats functional for traveling and the like? Were talking a large-frame DSLR with three or four lenses and a flash. As a former photojournalist, Im partial to shoulder bags for their easy access and dont mind a little weight on my shoulder. Two lines I like the look of are the Domke J-series and the Lowepro Stealth Reporter AW series, but Im open to other bags. Thanks.

BrianS1664879711
domke... mine's been in service since 1985 or so and looks like it will last another forever. Even better, it's the best bag I've ever worked with! ...
m3rdpwr
I looked at the 650AW and it's a nice bag. Room for books, laptop, etc. Perhaps a little big, but they do have smaller models... -Mario
pauljm
Check out the new Lowepro Slingshot 200. It's a cross between a backpack (easier to lug araound) and a shoulder bag (easy access). I'm seriously thinking of buying one. Paul
m3rdpwr
I have the Slingshot 9 (I believe) and I have issues with its use... -Mario
ben_kriete
You can't have a Slingshot 9, since there is only a 100 or 200. Maybe you're thinking of the Tamrac Velocity, Mario?

I have the Slingshot 200 and like it a lot. The only drawback is that it won't reasonably accomodate a long lens (e.g., 70-200 2.8). For walk-around shooting with a wideangle and standard zoom or a bunch of primes it is excellent.
leicaglow
Owned a lot of bags but the ones I carry the most are Tamrac's because they take such good care of the equipment with all their padding. They've never failed me either. They are not as swank as the Domke's or others, but they protect the equipment.
m3rdpwr
Ooops, you're right Ben. TAMRAC Velocity 9. They call it a slingpack. My bad, sorry. I still don't like it though... :) -Mario
andrew robertson
I have a Tenba bag that I bought about 15 years ago or more. It is still going strong! All the basics, nothing too fancy, tough as heck. I would think hard about getting a small photo backpack too. I have a big one and want a small one.
