Leica 90mm Elmar f4 screw mount lens (uncoated?)

Recommended Posts

It was made in 1947 so it's coated. I just bought one, coated, from 1942, and it's a really nice lens. A lens hood is a good idea on a lens this old. Adjustable FIKUS hoods are easy to find. The attached picture is from the first test roll, cheap colour neg at about f/5.6, one hour lab processing and printing.
00BcpE-22526884.jpg.eae354d6d88baa28bd15cfc15a0c1dcb.jpg

Victor's photo looks great. I'm glad I got this lens. I eventually

want to get the Noctilux, so I want to save money on other lenses. I

thought about buying the latest 90mm f2.8 elmarit on ebay for about

$700, but after intensive research, I found about this old gem. For

about $110, it's a great deal.

I had one and sold it. Don't regret it, though. The lens has its charm for those who can appreciate it. I did like some of the shots I made with it, but they had to be in B&W. Color in my 1936 lens wasn't the same because it tended to come up a bit too cool for my taste. However, it's got a lot of character and a particular kind of flare as you can see in this one:

Now, in color

Now... you have fun with it!

That's a great price for that 90. The Sunday Morning Image is great. It had me drawn in for a long time studying it. Well done.

The Noct is the Noct. It's a totally different animal then any other lens in the Leica arsenal. Once you get one, you'll love it.

Also agree that it's better when using B&W with the Noct.

Good luck, JT
