This has always been a low traffic forum. I tend to think that folks who are interesting in alternative processes spend more time actually doing that than spending time online.

apug.org and the alt-photo-list are much more active than this site. If you are interested

in alt-process, this is most definitely not the right street corner to hang out on.

Sorry to say, Clay is correct. As moderator of these forums I probably should do more to promote alternative processes. But I have little working knowledge - just a couple of books - and, for now, absolutely no work space for experiments.

 

Apug is a great site. I wish I had more time to visit there like I used to.

Does making your own conventional film or paper emulsion constitute alternative photography? Just wondering where that type of post might go. I'm ramping up to begin making some old fashioned emulsions here at home and was wondering where to post questions.

I've been wanting to try POP. Until I can set up a "real" darkroom again I might satisfy my curiosity by making digital negatives and using good old sunlight for the rest.

I've never made an emulsion at home. I've never made one with the primitive conditions and chemicals I can get outside of EK. It may be amusing to watch me go down in flames.

 

Since formulas are proprietary, I have to use a published formula that works. I will probably use Jim Browning's for starters. Ryuji has been kind enough to send me one of his as well which looks quite interesting, and which I will probably try.

 

If you don't hear any results from me, try not to laugh too hard.
