There is very good image editing software available for free - FastStone, Irfanview and XnView are what I use. As to lenses - find the limitations of your current setup before considering more. Tripods - very useful for landscape work, but lightweight ones are not usually very sturdy - conversely, sturdy ones are not light ! Have fun, feel free to post your results. -
I really don't think you need any additional lenses or any other equipment right now, since what you currently have is more than adequate for many photographic endeavors. You may want to consider getting the 50mm f1.8 STM for portraits, since it is really cheap and really good. Another lens you may want to consider is the 24mm f2.8 STM, since it is cheap, tiny, and apparently bloody sharp. Good tripods and heads are not cheap, and I would only get one if I really needed it. Can't discuss macro since I really don't do very much of that. Modern EF macro lenses are not inexpensive, but I would guess that from a usability standpoint and image quality, they would likely be better than an extension tube solutions, though the ancient Canon 50mm f2.5 macro lens is quite inexpensive in the used market these days. I use Adobe Lightroom, which cost about $10 per month. Don't know if there are better (more cost effective) options, but for me, the cost is worth the convenience of not having to learn another software package. Canon has editing software you may be able to access for free, but I have not used it for almost 2 decades and can't comment on how user friendly the current version is. Best of luck, and please don't go out and buy stuff until and unless you need it. Your current kit is more than adequate for many uses. -
Hi, I'm a beginner and need some advice on how to begin. I need lenses, editing software and a tripod and I don't know which should be the priority. I own a Canon SL2 with the kit lens (18-55mm) and a Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM. I like urban, wildlife and portrait photography. Do I need other lenses or mine is enough? I want to try macro next summer by using extension tubes...is it a good idea or it's better to buy a macro lens? Is it possible to begin with Gimp and later on move to PS for example? Where to invest money first? -
