Does any one know if this lens is actually out? I went to purchase one today, but the box nor the lens said V on it. The sales persona at Samy's was not sure it was the latest model as well,so I moved on. Reviews are far and few for this latest model. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Javier

Isn't that the same lens as the AT-X 17-35 f/4 FX only with some features added for video use (e.g. the gear to link with follow focus assist)? If you want the lens to use as part of a video rig, look for the gearing. (If the V lens is even available - it might not be on the market yet.) If you don't (or you're not sure what any of that means) get the AT-X FX lens. It's an excellent value lens.

Javier, the only thing that's "new" about that lens is the geared focus ring. The V suffix simply stands for Video. The optics of the lens are exactly the same as the 17-35mm f/4 AT-X Pro lens that's been around for about 4 years.

See the specs at: http://www.tokinalens.com/tokina/products/atxv/atx1735profxv/
and compare them with: http://www.tokinalens.com/tokina/products/atxprofx/atx1735f4profx/
You can see that the lens construction and MTF curves are identical.

From the information on Tokina's website it also looks as if the "V" lens is only available in a Canon fitting.

Folks,
I can't begin to thank you enough for the info. I will go ahead and pick one up tomorrow. I am hoping that it does not have the ghosting or flaring that my 12-24 Tokina F/4 has from time to time. Perhaps it is simply my copy. I at one time had a 20-35F/2.8 that was simply one of my most favorite lenses ever. I had it in Pentax mount, and one of the few lenses I have ever regretted selling. My main obsession or want with this Tokina is the smaller size than my Nikon lenses.
