c_michael_cain
I am opening a new studio and the landlord is providing buildout in the lease.....he wants to put ceramic tile throughout (1200sf) for the durability factor and he has given me ability to choose what goes down.... My question is for those of you with a studio...what would you put down. Small tile vs larger tile....what color (white, grey etc) Also the walls are now kind of a neutral beige...change it or leave it Thanks C Michael
lake_photography
Large tile a dark brown if possible. Paint the walls white
seismiccwave
Mr. Lake, Can you expand on your choice? I am also interested in finding out. I have a studio that I mistakenly painted peach and blue. The color is nice but not good for a studio. I was thinking about repainting it neutral grey.
brian.
My needs might be different than yours, but I would never put tile down as a floor in a photo studio. A simple painted concrete floor allows you to paint backdrops/flats as needed, allows a camera stand to roll easily around, and is cheaper. Just an opinion. mac_mcanirlin
If he wants to put that down, you could always buy some Luan or thin plywood and place that over the tile. You could then paint it any color that you wanted.
hjoseph7
Hardwood floors are the best, although you could allways get a hard wood panel.
bwcombs
I agree with one of the posters here. Tile does not make much sense. If there's an existing slab, leave it concrete. You might have to float it, and you can stain it a dark color or whatever, but lights, stands, etc., are easier to move on concrete. If it's not slab, then an option might be for wood floors. stephenwood
I disagree with the white walls (even though we're talking about floors.) I've found they become a reflector when I don't want one. I finally went with neutral grey walls and it works great. For the floors, if it must be tiles, maybe a terracotta but stay away from high gloss anything. c_michael_cain
Thanks to all the responses...we finally ended up going with wood floors (1400sf is allot of flooring) but hey, the landlord is paying for it in exchange for a two year lease.....
