meylin_bayryamali
Hello everyone, I am second year photography student. (Hope this question is posted in the right section).
I am doing medium format camera photography now. I was very interested in several photographs of Sophy Ricketts, but nowhere seem to write the technique that she uses, nor the equipment. Well, that could be a silly question, but I really wanted to know how its done, cause I have something similar in mind.
Is she using a flash to achieve the darkness behind? I am fascinated by the rich colors and complete darkness contrast. What ISO film will be best to use?

http://www.frieze.com/uploads/images/back/6026.bmp

http://blogs.arts.ac.uk/london-college-of-communication/files/2012/01/sophy-rickett-218x180.gif

http://sidcotcdm.co.uk/tom/files/2013/04/sophy-rickett.jpg

garypeck
Looks like she is carefully clipping the foreground and simply adding a black layer behind - looks to me like daylight.
sarah_fox
Try asking her! Most photographers are willing to discuss their techniques.

mike_earussi1
Looks to me like she's just masking off the foreground and turning the background black in post.
