bernard_frank
Sorry if this has been asked before, but I can't seem to find the answer, here or on Digitaltruth. What dilution and time would you recommend for HP5+ at EI 200 in D-76? Thank you.
evan_goulet
I usually go with 1:1 dilution, and I take 20% off my 400 time. That gives a development time of around 10 mins. But, you have to base your times off of, well, your times.
pje
Hmmm.... I found this on Digitaltruth: HP5+ D-76 1:3 @20c ISO 200, 14min notes say "low contrast".
bernard_frank
Thank you, my friends. I'll try 10 min. Paul, you're right. I had read the info on Digitaltruth, but I had immediately dismissed it - and totally forgot about it in the process - because of the 1:3 dilution, with which I'm not comfortable, and the long processing time. Thanks anyway.
ronald_moravec1
I just took 20% off my 400 speed time and it was perfect.
larrydressler
Ronald You and I were pretty close I took 15% off but I now have 400 feet of it to play with and will do alot more test... I think it pulls better in Rodinal 1-100 at 10-11 minutes but that is just the first shot I tryed with it....Larry
PaulWhiting
I see this thread may be a bit old by now, but I hope the original poster sees my pearls of wisdom. I had excellent results when pulling Tri-X in 35mm (perhaps similar to HP-5) to 200 and developing in D-76 1:3 for 13 minutes at 68 degrees. Great smoothness and shadow detail, some viewers thought I was shooting medium format. I read somewhere this was called by some the "English Dilution", read about it back in the 70's in a neat little newsletter called PhotoFile, I believe. Hope this helps! www.paulwhitingphotography.com
larrydressler
Paul Nothing is old around here except alot of the equipment and the photographers. It is never too late to answer a Question. I also remember that tern "English Dilution" I now have to remember if it was Modern or Popular Photography. Or maybe Shutter bug or Petersons or.....
