Gorgon JB, my first reaction was that raccoon was somehow wearing a hat, and then I looked closer.

Nice jelly fish image from Dieter. Last summer, I saw a lot of those in the Monterey Bay. They were on the surface and I captured plenty of images, but the water wasn't nearly as clear. For that, it is much easier in a controlled environment.

  6. Coopers Hawk is my guess. Just learning. Out at the Merced National wildlife refuge today, the snow geese got a little flustered when this guy showed up, but I think he was looking for something on the menu that was less filling.

  7. Persistence will prevail....

  8. Gordon, was your racoon dancing with the hat when you saw it?

Here's a gingerbread cookie that looks like a starfish. ;)

  9. Mary, yes dancing on tip toes on the deck rail, whilst raiding the bird feeder. Beautiful starfish, I've seen these diving in the Caribbean.
  10. LOL. Re starfish: My nephew got this for me scuba diving when we were "island hopping" in the Philippines.

  11. American Kestrel I believe. He was watching the birds at my feeder.

  12. Watched this Snowy Owl for about three hours before it flew off. owl1-copy-2-copy-2.jpg

  13. I just can't get enough of the warm hues of winter plant decay and all the textures and gnarly growth I can find in my local Panther Canyon.
