Leslie Reid
Basic Guidelines: In the strictest sense, nature photography should not include "hand of man elements". Please refrain from images with buildings or human made structures like roads, fences, walls. Pets are not permitted. Captive subjects in zoos, arboretums, or aquariums are permitted, but must be declared, and must focus on the subject, not the captivity. Images with obvious human made elements will likely be deleted from the thread, with an explanation to the photographer. Guidelines are based on PSA rules governing Nature photography which also cover the Nature Forum. Keep your image at/under 1000 pixels on the long axis for in-line viewing. Note that this includes photos hosted off-site at Flicker, Photobucket, your own site, etc. We post one image per week. Last Thursday entered with a beautifully drippy foggy morning—bad weather for spiders, good weather for their prey. And photographers.

Gup
This shot is one that many visitors to Newfoundland will appreciate. I shot it at dawn on Cape Spear. Cape Spear is the easternest point in North America, so anyone viewing the dawn from this point can claim to be first to see the sun that day in North America. :) We camped out on the cape the night before to ensure we wouldn't sleep-in. September 14th, 5:42:51 am. I shot it with a D800E and a 28-70mm zoom.

DawsonPointers
Gup, that is probably the best place to learn what the difference between 'normal waves' and 'ocean swells' is in terns of size and frequency. When the swells are rolling in unencumbered, but with land to act as a visual reference, it is really impressive.
