  1. Important: please keep your image under 700 pixels wide/high for in-line viewing, and please try to keep the FILE SIZE UNDER 300kb. Note that this includes photos hosted off-site (at Flickr, Photobucket, your own site, etc).

    Cemeteries are one of my favorite subjects and here is a fall-themed shot taken in Woodlawn cemetery New York.

  3. I spent a few hours in Windsor Great Park yesterday. Ignoring the autumnal colours, here are some of the shots.
    The Copper Horse
    A statue of George III, by George IV.
    Created by Sir Richard Westmacott and erected on Snow Hill at the end of The Long Walk between 1824 and 1830.
    5D2+24-105+CP filter
    Park Life
    7D+300/4 IS+1.4x
    Deer crossing The Long Walk
    7D+300/4 IS+1.4x
  4. A ghostly collection of wooly aphid bodies and parts are strewn about the entrance to an ant colony (the dark hole). A bit of breeze would make the delicate parts sway and they looked as if they were coming to life. Kind of creepy.

  10. This is either a bad year for foliage in my area, or we haven't got there yet.
    In any case, the third weekend in October is not only the Vulture Fest at Makanda, but also the Fall Encampment of the 18th and early 19th c. enactors at Fort Massac, a fort that was occupied by various 18th c French units on occasion and later by American troops grabbing the "Illinois Country" for Virginia (George Rogers Clark).
    All with Canon 5dii and 24-105mm lens (just so danged handy!).
  11. Period music, if electronically amplified.
  12. October means the new release of this special annual release of Sierra Nevada's superb IPA. Every October for the past 20+ years I really look forward to this one! I wish they'd pay me to hawk their beverages.
  13. There was really good turnout this year. No doubt partly because we'd had several long periods of rain in the weeks preceding.
  14. Bumper crop of acorns this year.
    XSi, 18-55 is with 12mm extension tube, off camera flash
  15. Went for a walk in the wood last Saturday;
  16. Another view;
  17. Color is creeping out anywhere it can.
  18. I had to desaturate this a little.

  22. i'm not posting anything (no time right now to do conversion and resizing) but popped by for a look and need to
    pass along a couple of compliments. Peter Meade, what a fascinating juxtaposition, the horse/rider of yore and
    the airplane and its present day riders, climbing side by side into the same sky. Nice timing. And Rick Du
    Boisson, as always, your composition is superb. The thing which really caught me with this one was that about
    two weeks ago, i caught an almost transparent dragonfly against a clump of totally dried grasses, and your ship
    on the beach image is virtually the same image, the beach is the color of the dried grasses and that ship is the shape of a beached dragonfly. My compliments gentlemen, well done, added enjoyment to my day.
  23. I found fall color in a small Church yard cemetery.
  24. Sorry, here it is.
  25. And a place for an equally colorful name.
  26. Thanks Robert - perhaps we will see your dragonfly shot in the Nature on Monday forum? Cheers, RickDB
