dfperrault
I came across this web site on the Afghan box camera. The site tells about the history, photographers, and has and extensive collection of photos taken with this camera. I haven't found any other references on photo.net. Please let me know if there are any
http://www.afghanboxcamera.com
michael_darnton2
Mexican street photogs used to use something similar. I don't know if they still do.

charles_wass
Years ago they were used all round the world, typically in undeveloped areas (no pun intended). There was a company in Liverpool, England that made them right up to the early 1950s. I will try to find more information on that manufacturer.
eugen_mezei
Street photographers in Romania used them up until the beginning of the 90's. They operated mostly in parcs or other places where families will pass. They had stuffed animals, like a bear, a goat, sometimes a deer with a cart attached, so kids of 3-10 years could be placed there and photographed. They operated in the summer, mostly at weekends.
Than the 90's came and they dissapeared quickly as anybody got his own digital camera.
charles_wass
I have not been able to trace the Liverpool company I mentioned above; it is possible it was Jerome, but I can't confirm that. However, the following links may be of interest regarding current activity.
http://www.mottweilerstudio.com/tag/paper-negative/
http://collectiblend.com/Cameras/Velophot/Street-Camera.html
http://invaluable.com/catalog/viewLot.cfm?afRedir=true&lotRef=713b2sf65a&scp=c&ri=541
The links in the first one are worth following.
charles_wass
I should have mentioned that I saw one of the cameras in use about twenty years ago in the Middle East or possibly Egypt, but I can't recall exactly where.
