c_watson1
Crickets chirping at mine for the past couple years. They killed nearly all the commercial/custom print labs around Toronto years ago.
sridip_nag1
True, the store labs are closing down, but you can still get your printing done and delivered. I did a quick estimation of the gas it costs to run up to the one Costco that had the in-store lab open, and the cost of delivery... turns out its a wash. digitaldog
It's a damn shame because many Costco's were a resource for color managed output, with custom profiles supplied by each store via Dry Creek. IF that killed commercial and custom labs that didn't provide such functionality and demanded all files be supplied in sRGB, good for Costco. 1 Author “Color Management for Photographers" & "Photoshop CC Color Management" (pluralsight.com)

The key change as explained by local Canadian Costco photolab staff is the end of "in-store" printing. Apparently print work is being centralized though it's unclear how upload and print delivery will work.

Centralized print work, color managed, that be even better (in terms of keeping all devices 'calibrated' and consistent). Please keep us in the loop about this new move if you find out anything more. c_watson1
Uploads, payment, and return mailing reportedly all done through Costco.ca. Nothing clear about who will do the printing but I suspect it might be Fujifilm.ca since they did all the usual photo gift kitsch(mugs, calendars, t-shirts) for Costco which also used Frontier machines. Profiles through Dry Creek still in use. Will try them once the dust settles--or in my case, snow!
bgelfand
Profiles through Dry Creek still in use. Will try them once the dust settles--or in my case, snow! I do not see how Costco will profile a central location with many machines. At present the profiles are specific to machines at each location and to only one machine. I see no profiles for the central location (which one can used today and have the prints mailed), only profiles per store.
digitaldog
I do not see how Costco will profile a central location with many machines As someone who's' done this in the past, with devices (digital presses, dozens upon dozens) that are far more difficult to calibrate for consistent output, I can tell you it's quite doable. I see no profiles for the central location (which one can used today and have the prints mailed), only profiles per store. Because that was how it was done in the past and until this centralized location is up and ready to accept such orders, and DryCreek updates their page, you will not see such profiles. I hope you are right. However, Costco has had mail order from a central site for many years, and they have not published a profile for that site - at least not one on DryCreek or any other place I can find. I assume Costco will continue to use the same central site.
digitaldog
I hope you are right. Based on years of experience doing this, and knowing Ethan and his work, I am. ;) However, Costco has had mail order from a central site for many years, and they have not published a profile for that site - at least not one on DryCreek or any other place I can find. I assume Costco will continue to use the same central site. Not all Costco's have the same protocols, equipment nor profiles from Ethan. That's quite evident from Ethan's site.
