How come my minolta maxxum 70 camera wont let me capture a picture?

I have used this camera many times, everything else works. I am in a film photography class for college, I worked with digital cameras only in high school. Help please?

Need more info. It could be anything. Bring it to a camera shop and let someone else have a play with it. Check batteries. Check lens is mounted properly. What appears in the display? What frame number is the display showing? Does the camera autofocus? Do you hear the autofocus confirmation beep?

The battery is new. The display appears the date and the blinking zero. The camera does auto focuses but wont let me take it, no beeping I hear.

Make sure the time/date are properly entered and that you have film loaded. Also make sure the image is in focus. Do you have an owner's manual? If not you can get one here Minolta Maxxum 70 / Dynax 60 instruction manual, user manual, PDF manual, free manuals for free, although he would like a $3 donation. The dynax 60 is the same as the Maxxum 70, BTW.

Have you tried cleaning the lens / camera contacts ?

According to the manual linked to above, the blinking zero is a sign of an incorrectly loaded film (see page 17). The suggested solution is to reload the film.
