Olympus infinity stylus - film recommendation

hi I recently received this classic point and shoot camera. I shot a roll of 200 Fujimax which gave some great results. the clear sunny shots were great while the dimmer shots lacked. I'm just wondering what would be a good film to use on this camera and which ISO? I know it mostly comes down to personal preference but I'd like to hear your suggestions.

 

p.s. I'm bringing this cam with me on a trip to peru

In the Peruvian Andes you'll likely encounter both bright days and heavily overcast days. Summer in the USA is winter there, but that means usually that it is not the rainy season....just post harvest season. I'd suggest you take ISO 400 film (your choice) as it should serve you well and will be most versatile given the daily conditions. You can certainly buy a variety of film in Lima and Cusco. It may be more expensive in the town outside of Machu Pichu formerly known as Agua Calientes, Urubamba and Ollentaytambo. Have a great trip.

Olympus infinity stylus Jr quartz date and it was in pretty good condition. However, the quartz date on the back cove did not work. Is that fixable? Or is it too much to expect a camera from the 1990s to still have that function?

When I got it had nasty corroded batteries in it. I pried them out and cleaned it up. I put 2 new AAA batteries in it. There was a roll of film in it. I shot the last few frames and the film rewound. The flash fired. I just thought it was expecting too much for the date function to work on a camera that old. It is a clever design with the sliding cover.

I would keep using the same 200 film. When the light is low film cameras won't fair well. 200 speed color negative film is least expensive and the quality is good. For over 30 years of shooting film I have used ISO 400, 800, 1000 and 1600 a few times but I never liked them. Back then it was either that or no pictures. Today low light are for the digital. Although I love film but in low light I use digital just like it's either digital or no pictures.

I've reached more or less the same conclusion. Sometimes lower light B&W will look good with a little grain but it depends on the shot, - and personal preference. I've taken some long exposure evening shots with film that I really like but I still stick to 200 ASA or slower.

 

I'd almost prefer that more 35mm film was sold in 12 or 24 exposure rolls. There are times that I want the faster film and the conditions are good for it but usually not 36 exposures worth. That's why I'm starting to gravitate to small medium format cameras.

 

For me film is more for special occasions though I do carry an Olympus XA around with me with random shots.
