derek_thornton1
Would like to know what you all think of this lens. Since I broke my Nikon 18-35mmG lens I have been trying to find a replacement. There are two lenses that look very attractive the Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8 and the Sigma 20mm f/1.4 ART. The Nikon 20mm f/1.8 looks good too, but same cheap build as my broken 18-35mm.

I really want the Sigma 20mm but feel like 20MM may not be wide enough for falls and river. So now I am looking close at the Tamron but wondering if it will hold up for ten years, how well it handles lake and ocean sunsets (flaring), close-ups and the Milky Way. In other words, I need it to do everything.

Thanks for any help.
Derek
derek-thornton.artistwebsites.com

jorish
There's a test here from a German site that has a good reputation as far as I know:
http://www.photozone.de/nikon_ff/989-tamron153028vcff
Miha
Some more reviews for the Tamron lens:
http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Tamron_SP_15-30mm_f2-8_Di_VC_USD/verdict.shtml
http://www.bobatkins.com/photography/reviews/tamron_15-30_vc_review.html
https://dustinabbott.net/2015/02/tamron-sp-15-30mm-f2-8-di-vc-usd-review/
The lens got very good to excellent marks in some magazines (Chasseur d'Images (France), Naturblick (Germany) etc.). I am using this lens for a little less than one year and have made very good experiences. But it is true - you can not mount filters (except with a specaial adapter (Fotodiox et similar)) and the lens is big and heavy.
Hope this helps.

thadley
I have the nikon 20mm f1.8, it is light and I am very happy with it's optical performance. I cannot tell you how it compares to the others and I am hoping that it lasts me quite a while.
derek_thornton1
There is nothing I hate worse than shopping for a lens. I have read so many reviews that say the Tamron 15-30MM is a dream lens. I just finished looking at about 300 images taken with this lens on Flickriver and only saw a handfull of images that looked decent. Meanwhile, reviews and test show the Nikon 16-35MM to be just so-so at best and the images I have seen with that lens are superb!
derek-thornton.artistwebsites.com
