  1. Winter morning Nikon D7200, 18-300mm 3.5-6.3. A simple combo, always with me.
  2. Happy holidays to all of you! Some of the last days were quite cold and foggy around here - so at least some wintery feelings in the nearby woods/park. All photos made with D750 and 70-200 2.8 VR (first generation).
  3. Birds... First photo Nikon 500mm 5.6 PF, second one same lens but with 1.4 TC (II)
  4. If I may join the debate... I started my photography with a yashica 42 mm mount camera and a very limited choice of lenses in that time (not to speak about the prices). When I could spend enough money for my hobby (around 1977) I bought my first OM2, later another body (one for slides and another one for BW films) and some superb Zuiko lenses. In the early 1990s my Olympus cameras were almost worn out. The service man told me there were no more spare parts to repair the old cameras. Then I switched to Nikon because Olympus autofocus was not so good at that time and they were using another lens mount system. I hoped that the Nikon F-mount would guarantee a long time stability. In the last 30 years I 'collected' a lot of lenses, Nikon MF and AF but also a lot of old modified and adapted East German and Soviet lenses. They all fit into my Nikon F-system. After so many years I must now prepare myself for another system change. For me it is almost traumatic to change something so important as a camera system, but I hope the new system would not differ so much from my old one. And I hope to use most of my F-lense on the new Z-camera. Unfortunatelly many of old (but still good) lenses will loose AF. But the most important lenses for wildlife will not - my 300 pf and 500 pf witj 1.4x TC. Sadly I don't see something like my D7200 with 500PF and 1.4 TC equivalent (21x magnification) in the Nikon line. But maybe a high resolution camera with crop factor could replace it. I'm also using a Sony 6000 with the three Sigma 1.4 lenses as a small system with fast AF lenses. I don't think I would be happy with yet another system.
  5. Another one - a lotus bloom in the pond. D750, 300 Pf +1.4 TC @ f/8.
  6. Some Mediteranean clouds ... D7200 with 18-300 mm
  7. Both photos NIkon D7200 with 18-300mm 6.3 lens
  8. A view from my window - Nikon D750 with 20+ years old Sigma 28-200 mm.
  9. @ rodeo_joe1 and Niels: The three lenses exist for quite some years for Sony e-mount (APSC) and are a quite usable trio. Their focal lenses correspond to 24mm, 45 mm and 84 mm FF equivalents. So nothing really new. They also don't compete with Nikon DX lenses in Z mount. Besides some consumer grade DX lenses now the photographer can use three fast lenses for (almost) every situation - landscape (16mm), standard (30mm) and portrait (85mm). I am using those lenses on my Sony camera I bought in 2016 especially to use with these lenses - because NIkon did (and does) not have any equivalents. So I can't say these are the lenses that nobody ever wanted. I can easily imagine someone using them on Z30 or Z50 for video or stills. Because of their good quality and reasonable prices (they are even cheaper for Sony-E) there sure is a market for these lenses. Of course, YMMV. P.S. Nikon equivalents for FF with 1.4 aperture are too big and too expensive to be a real alternative for DX (APSC) users.
  10. Hi. @Mike: To clear the misunderstanding (because of my writing) - i wanted to say that 24 mm is too long on DX and 120 mm is to short on FF. I defintely want to get the newer lens, therefore I searched for 18-300 6.3 or tamron 18-400 for DX. I will also look for 28-300 for FF. Some of these lenses are selling not much used for a reasonable amount of money (~300€). I will also look for 18-140. I'm not very keen to use multiple lenses and change the lenses on the trip/hike. Regards, Miha.
  11. Hi, 24-120 is too wide on the DX and too short on the FF. So far I'm searching for a used 28-300 G ED VR, whish should be a reasonably good performer.
  12. Hi, everyone. Thanks for your tips. I am not interested in a bridge/compact camera. Also the 24-120 is too expensive. Unfortunately the 18-200 is not sold any more. @ Mike: The trip will include everything, from cityscapes to landscapes. The limiting factor is the volume and weight of the entire luggage. So this lens will be used for this trip and maybe some following trips/hikes, it will not replace the lenses I already have.
  13. This summer I will probably be going on a trip where size and weight of the camera do matter. Therefore, my 2.8 trio will have to stay at home. Now I'm considering a single all-round lens to accompany either my D750 or D7200. I already have a 20+ years old Sigma 28-200 for FF, but I know it is not very sharp and it is also lacking stabilisation and AF motor. I can't find a suitable modern lens for Nikon F-mount full frame camera (no surprise). Other option I'm considering is the 18-300 3.5-6.3 lens for the DX camera. It has VR, is AF-S and allows manual correction of the focusing. Unfortunately there is no option for me to rent/borrow this lens and to test it. I would like to know if anyone of you has an opinion about this lens. Would the optical quality be much(?) better than the old Sigma lens? I don't expect superb IQ from a 'superzoom' lens. Just want to record some impressions of the trip. I am also aware of the effect of VR system in the newer lens. I do know about the size of certain compact cameras and have some experiences with them, but I noticed they are much worse regarding the high ISO-s than the DSLRs. Perhaps you can come out with another solution. Tamron 18-400mm maybe? Thanks in advance for your thoughts. Regards, Miha.
