Two23
Not a new idea here. In the 1860s cameras with four lenses were fairly common. They were used by portrait photographers who would take four tin types at once with them. (There were no enlargers then.) And another question. Whatever became of the Lyto camera?

Kent in SD
Sandy Vongries
4 identical lenses, or a mock up? And no EVF? Oh, well, not an early adopter in any case.

ShunCheung
This seems to be the typical one rumor site quoting another rumor site, based on patent filing. This is not official product information from Nikon. I am also not sure what is the source for the opening image Henry posted. That is on the PetaPixel site but could be merely someone's PhotoShop job.

One thing to keep in mind is that companies such as Nikon tend to file a lot of patents, but only a fraction of them lead to actual products.

Matthew Brennan
Surely this is a poor photoshop mock up? Check out the missing lower rim section of the top left lens body (as viewed) even I can do a better job than that............ ;-)

Shun Cheung , Aug 11, 2016; 05:21 p.m.

How about a version that requires four Zeiss Otus lenses? :-)

Magnificent response - has made my day!
MichaelChang

What would be the purpose of having 4 lenses?

Images from 4 lenses and 4 sensors can be stitched on the fly or individually manipulated to achieve the equivalent of a single lens and sensor, and be more cost effective. I'd love to see Canon make such a camera, and a CHDK firmware hack to expand its capabilities - imagine 6 of these to make 360 images or video at incredible resolution. chuck
Wouldn't there be a problem with parallax when stitching together image shot through different lenses?
I am still not clear on what Nikon hope to accomplish with this?
