colin carron
Looks interesting. I see it is 'slightly taller, wider and heavier than the original' but has better IS and conventional rotating zoom design (if that is an advantage). Looks like the price might be 'slightly heavier' too but that may drop a bit in time.

I shall add it to my growing list of Canon lenses I would like to own.
massimo_foti
Yes, price will be 'slightly heavier' too, it will start at $2199
Some additional info here:
http://www.dpreview.com/articles/0288511554/canon-ef-100-400mm-f-4-5-5-6l-is-ii-usm-becomes-reality
Marcus Ian
Close focusing distance went from 5.9' -> 3.2'

If those MTF charts are any indication, there's a substantial improvement in IQ.

Still love the push/pull zoom more than twist zoom...

Hopefully performances with 1.4 extender will be good too.
Marcus Ian
The MTFs for the mk II on Canon's site w/ the 1.4x are pretty similar to the 100-400 (ver 1)'s w/o a 1.4x.

Nice that they provided MTFs for the lens alone, and w/ the 1.4x, and w/ the 2.0x.

Obviously the MTFs alone don't tell the whole story, but I'd like to see the whole picture.
Dave410
Sweet! I've always wanted that lens, but I didn't like the push/pull zoom. (Sorry Marcus and Massimo.) I sure hope the reviews show it to be a good one.
Robin Smith
Looks excellent. It's not a lens I need, but it will be useful for many.
Robin Smith
JDMvW
I knew that this day would come, but I've had the use of my older version for a couple of years, and probably won't be upgrading anytime soon.

It's now time for those who were waiting for the mark ii to start waiting for the already rumored mark iii ;>)

Dave410
We'll probably see a mark down on the Mk I, if it hasn't happened already.
15sunrises
Have the Mark I, love the push/pull and am pretty satisfied with the image quality, not sure that I'll be jumping on the upgrade, especially without push/pull. I find it significantly faster than rotating-ring zoom, but it's probably just personal preference.
w_t1
Sweet. The lack of phallicised push-pull zoom is a deal Maker for me. My uncle has the current version and doesnt like the zoom creep on tripod, but I can't validate his technique. I see one of these in my futurr with a 7d2 for soccer and baseball. My current 1d2 bodies could do better with low light and id love the zoom.
maciej_m__281_czy__324_ski
Hi! I like this lens it`s great to use. Push/pull design has adventages e.g. you can zoom very quickly and you can zoom and focus in this same time. Yes problem with dust is now officialy confirmed by Canon. But this lens is lighter than 70-200 2.8 and focuses to 1,5 meter. Canon EF 400 5,6 focuses to few meters. 100-400L IS is versatile lens especialy for full frame. The best lens for money I ever got. Grab it when you need super telephoto for good price while you still can. Or spend $$$$ on new one, depends on your wallet.
All the best
howie_wu
Even though Canon has lagged behind in the sensor department in recent years, it is still the king of telephotos. I have no doubt the new version of the lens is superior to the old one in every way -- better IQ, better AF, shorter close focus distance hence larger magnification, better IS ... Well, except it is bigger and heavier, but I can live with these. I had the version I for a decade and loved it, but I immediately sold it after the announcement as I am convinced that the new one will be better. (Meanwhile, I have my 300mm f/2.8 II as my telephoto).
