chris_waller
I am told that Adonal is exactly the same formulation as genuine Agfa Rodinal. Can anyone attest to its shelf-life?

TIA.
SCL
If it is exactly the same, the shelf life can be measured in years, provided that the container is sealed with little room in the container for oxidation, that storage temperature isn't extreme, and it isn't frequently exposed to sunlight.
trooper
Once the old trademark issues were cleared up (from not using the trademark for a period of time by Agfa), the batches after February of 2014 were being shipped into the US labeled as Rodinal again. There was some discussion of this on another photo site and the company (Adox) issued a clarifying message explaining this.
kris-bochenek
My old bottle of Adonal, opened and being used for past 3 years, still yields results as good as the day I bought it. The color changes to dark caramel, but it's still good.
john_stockdale2
There was a post at either rangefinderforum or apug where an apparently well-informed photographer did some real measurements and found some drop in activity over a period. I don't remember if it was 6 months or two years but I know it wasn't decades. I don't think I'd notice a gradual drop in activity as I gradually used up a bottle of Rodinal, as I tend to adjust my exposure a bit by observations of the last few rolls. I'm sure it's safe to regard its life as longer than just about any other developer though.
chris_waller
Many thanks, all, for your responses. I have 4 bottles of a&o Rodinal (labelled 'Agfa Rodinal') which, I believe, was 'genuine' Rodinal but I also have 5 bottles of R09 made by KG of Germany. The a&o Rodinal lists its ingredients as potassium sulfite, potassium hydroxide, p-aminophenol and potassium bromide. I shall order some Adonal as soon as my supplier has it in stock. Thanks again.
canwewin
Chris, I have an open bottle of Adonal, opened about a year ago. Still working fine. If I remember correctly, Adox Adonal is made according to the latest Agfa Rodinal original recipe.

Fotohuis RoVo
So far my info reaches Adox bought the Rodinal (brand) name. CPP&S was the last supplier of genuine Rodinal, before the plant was own by A&O and before it was Agfa Photo. In 2004 Agfa Photo (Photo division) was split from Agfa (Gevaert).

In the mean time Tetenal is making Rodinal/R09 in Europe. Compard KG is doing the distribution and filling up, I think now. Maybe also for Impex/Adox and probably for Foma, sold under Fomadon R09 (NEW). Foma changed from the old Calbe R09 to Rodinal R09 around 2007/2008. It is also possible that their Foton/Foma chemical plant in Poland is doing it.
I have two small bottles genuine original Agfa Rodinal 125ml left. The youngest is from 2003, the other even some years older.
I am also using R09 o.s. / Rodinal, So far the differences are neglectible, even measured on my Heiland TRD-Z densitometer in combination with the (Heiland) TAS film processor.
