A good spring Wednesday to everyone. Though the season has a green reputation, some of our local trees start out with decidedly red leaves. The one with the worst fashion sense is the local redbud, which shows that new red folliage alongside garish purple blossoms. It's the plaid-and-paisley of ornamental trees.

But the leaves are a good backlighting challenge, so out came the step ladder. Needed a stop of exposure compensation to handle the leaf detail against a brighter cloudy sky. So? Let's see what you've been up to!

Hi everyone - well many of you know I have two hobbies, photography & horseback riding. Well, while riding I suddenly realized there are new species of birds (my favorite subject) flying around me. So I've started trying to get close to some new species. These are crops, but I'll keep at it & hopefully one day I'll get better shots & closer of them. Looking forward to seeing everyone's shots
All shots taken with the D300 & the 300 - 800mm f/5.6 Sigma Sigmonster....
1. Western Tanager - male - brand new bird for me...

f/8 @ 800 mm, 1/1250, ISO 800, -1/3 EV

2. Phainopepla - don't ask me to pronounce that ;) & also a new bird for me - This is the female

f/7.1 @ 800 mm, 1/1600, ISO 400, -1/3 EV

3. and this is the male - hoping for better light on him the next time....

f/6.3 @ 800 mm, 1/1600, ISO 800, -1/3 EV

This was just a twig under a smaller maple. i gently dug it up and put in the cup in the photo and kept it watered. In early March I noticed the very end of the stem started bulging ever so slightly and a week later, voila leaves started uncurling. I think it will make it.

Green-Winged Teal, D7100 with 500mm/f4 AF-S @ f8, 1/640 sec, ISO 250. I stopped down to f8 to gain a bit of depth of field. The 24MP D7100 represents huge magnification so that it is hard to get both the eye and wing in focus.

00bbcH-535061584.jpg.1f7221ac720db1c69350ab256f1542eb.jpg

Although I keep shooting every week, most are family and friends portraits... Only three landscapes on the past week (so rare on me to shoot landscapes with a smal format camera); this one another salt lake and warehouse (that I gave up for loose... I used to love this beach when I was young. So happy the area has been cleaned and protected).
Nikon F3 + 50/1.4AiS, f8 or f11, FP4+ (100ISO) on straigh D76, developed to be traditionally printed.

00bbcV-535065584.jpg.97d08c9827a64cc59df2b3381442e635.jpg

A good Wednesday morning to all. Such wonderful shots today. Very Inspiring indeed.
My first shot is that of a lady who lives just down the street from me in Ashland, Oh. who has a day care in her home. Weather permitting, she takes her charges along with her dog, for a walk. I shot this one yesterday. Hope you enjoy.

00bbct-535073684.jpg.52daa302dd1f6e31d13fd6dd1be02130.jpg
