  1. Thanks everyone. I have NX Studio installed and will just create the several batch files on it. I only use NX2 for a couple of items in my workflow, and really not that often. I also used it for quick print jobs. Like everything else in life, I guess it is time to move on.
  2. I need to make a fresh install of Capture NX2 (yes, I still use it occasionally). Nikon pulled the free install off of its website last October. I thought I had a disk but can't find it. Anyone know a safe website where I can download a copy?
  3. 600mm f/4 on D500 body set at f/6.3; ISO 1600 and 1/3 sec
  4. Sorry about the bad luck Shun. After reading your post I immediately re-tightened the ring on my 200-500. Last Friday while shooting at a high school football game I noticed that the screw holding the Arca Swiss clamp on my monopod had loosened. Since it was holding my 300MM f/2.8 and D500 I immediately panicked wondering how I was going to re-tighten it. Fortunately the latest RRS L-Plates have a slot for an allen wrench that was the same size and I was able to tighten it.
  5. Thanks everyone for the comments. The Wasabi EN-EL18 charger costs slightly more, but still much cheaper than the Nikon. I have never understood the $449 price tag on the Nikon charger.
  6. Has anyone tried the Kastar LCD Dual Fast Charger for Nikon EN-EL18b EN-EL18a battery? I normally don't use third-party chargers, but for $39.95 it is awfully tempting to have one on hand as an additional/backup.
  7. Just received notification that my Sony 64GB XQD cards will be shipped today.
  8. Just noticed that the Sony card is now on backorder. Oh well. Maybe someday.
  9. Shun, I agree it is a very good deal at $99.95. I placed the order originally because one of my Lexar 64GB XQD cards went bad. That was the first memory card of any type I have had go bad.
  10. I received the following email yesterday concerning a backorder for the Lexar XQD 64GB card at Adorama : "In regards to your order for the Lexar Pro 64GB 2933X XQD Memory Card. We are sorry to report that we have just been informed by Lexar that they have discontinued this card and will no longer be fulfilling any orders for this. We can offer to replace this with the Sony 64GB XQD G/E Memory Card at the same price or if you not wish to have this replaced we would have to cancel the order, Please reply to this email how would like to proceed. If we don't hear back on this we will have no choice but the cancel the order. We apologize for the delay and inconvenience it may have caused." Since my original order was priced at $99.95 I am going to accept the Sony card.
  11. I am a Premium Member that uses an ad blocker and have reported this problem before. Whenever I enter Photo.net I get an overlay stating that ad blockers hurt the community and asking me to become a premium member. As stated above, I am already a Premium Member! I have to click the overlay and most times that takes me away from the forum I want to enter. Can we not get this fixed? If not I will not renew my Premium Membership this year since obviously I'm not getting what I want from it.
  12. Maybe we're missing something. Surely under the "In The Box" listing for this lens will be: -LF-4 Rear Lens Cap -Lens Hood -Soft Case -New D850 body -New D500 body Short of that I don't think you have to worry about a large backorder list. But what do I know?
  13. Like Dieter and Joseph I give each camera body a unique name under "File Naming" in the setup menu. For instance D5A=D5, D50=D500, D85=D850 and D75=D750. That way in the future I can tell just by looking at a file name which camera body was used. I manually create folders based on the job or destination such as "Acme HS Football 2017" and then separate folders for each game. I use Fast Picture Viewer 64 Pro after each game to quickly go through the photos and transfer the keepers to the folder. For sports when using multiple camera bodies I use Adobe Bridge to put them in the proper time sequence and batch rename if desired. For that each body must have a GPS so that the time is synchronized. For photo sessions it can be "Smith Family 2017" and for vacation trips "Hawaii 2009". I have used this system for about 15 years and at least for me helps to quickly locate photos from a certain event or destination.
  14. ilkka, you are correct. Lexar (now Longsys) website says to return to seller for warranty issues. I am in the process of doing that now. Shun, I too only use backup mode for this very reason. By the way, the website is now letting me back in without ads after I sign in as paying member. Glad they corrected that.
  15. Okay, I moved the XQD card back from the D5 into the D850. I ran off several high speed bursts without issue, then suddenly the card error appeared again. I moved the card back to the D5 and turned it on, and immediately got the card error on it as well. I then moved it back to the D850 and it worked through several high speed bursts without a problem. At this point I suspect it is a card issue. If it is this is the first card problem I have had after more than 16 years of digital photography. Unfortunately it is a Lexar 64GB XQD card, so getting it covered under warranty is probably out of the question. As an aside, I have had trouble getting on PN today because I am using Ad Blocker. For a few days it has just put a banner across the top, but today it is refusing to let me get on without turning Ad Blocker off even though I pay an annual fee for PN. It is getting very annoying.
  16. Andrew, I have not reported it yet because I have been tied up all day and have not been able to run more tests with a different XQD card. I plan to do that shortly and will let you know the results.
  17. I moved the XQD card to my D5 to shoot a basketball game tonight and it functioned without issue. I have a different XQD in the D850 now and will try to recreate the problem when I get a chance. As Shun suggested I will also try it with the SD card only in the camera. I have not heard about the 30 frames per second, but while I am testing the cards I will give that a shot as well.
  18. I received my MB-D18 grip today and inserted an EN-EL18b battery to test the frame rate. Sure enough, it is 2 frames faster than the camera without the grip as advertised. While testing I started getting Crd Err messages on just the Lexar XQD card. I tried to format it in the camera but it gave an error and said to replace the XQD card. I formatted the card using my laptop and then the camera recognized it. I started shooting high speed again and the camera froze with the Crd Err message again which required formatting again on my laptop. I have been using this card without issues since getting the D850. Is it possible that the grip or EN-EL18b battery could be causing the issue with the card? I will change out the XQD card and see if the error presents itself again, but was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts.
  19. I normally shoot Friday night football with a D5 and D500, but recently I left the D5 at home and used the D850 just to see how it would do. Overall I was pleased with the results, but as Shun pointed out it is not going to replace the D5. The AF speed, while good, seems to be about 1/2 step behind the D5. I set the AF-Area Mode to Dynamic 72 Point just as I do with the D5. I am attaching two shots from that night. The dancer at halftime was shot at ISO 4000 and the football action shot was ISO 6400.
  20. I took three shots of a scene using the three RAW sizes. Here are some results: -RAW sizes were 59.1mb, 32.0mb and 23.8mb -Converted jpeg sizes were 29.8mb, 14.9mb and 7.08mb -Dimensions were 8256x5504, 6192x4128 and 4128x2752 -WB info for Large RAW was Temp 4774K and Tint -1.06 -WB info for Medium RAW was Temp 4806K and Tint -1.18 -WB info for Small RAW was Temp 4815K and Tint -1..36 All WB options were available for all three sizes. To my eye (I'm not a pixel peeper) all three shots looked the same as far as WB after conversion to jpeg.
  21. Just tried the EN-EL15A in my D750 and also the Nikon brand battery grip for the D750. Worked fine in both and showed both the battery charge % and # of shots taken accurately. I have not tried the medium and small RAW settings yet but will try later today if I get a chance.
  22. I received mine on Thursday, but have not had time to play with it much. I know, have I lost my mind? :) This is a busy time of year with football and such, but maybe I will have a little more time over the next few days. I did do the basic setup on it and snapped a couple of photos of our dogs. I am attaching one. It was shot indoors without flash at ISO 6400 f/2.8 and 1/500 sec. using the 70-200mm 2.8 VRII lens. There was no noise reduction applied in post. Just my opinion after a quick look, but the noise level looks on par with the D500 or maybe slightly better. The RAW file was 60mb and the full size jpeg was 36mb. The attached was cropped and sized for Photo.net.
  23. Part of the repair included installing a Compact Flash card holder. JUST KIDDING!!! I thought that was odd as well. I am assuming they either mistakenly hit the line item for CF instead of SD, or they just use that line item when they replace the rubber on any card holder.
  24. Just received my D750 from Nikon with the following service description: Replace shutter mechanism Replace rubber grip Replace rewind side rubber Replace CF cardholder rubber General check & clean Clean image sensor Adjust shutter mechanism Checked exposure Checked AF system Checked flash operation It looks like a new camera!
  25. Shun, mine was not in the first recall. I did send another of my bodies in for a recall a few years back, but I don't remember which one.
