peteraitch
As Tom Burke has said, weather conditions in the UK mean that we still have a lot of quite green leaves, but many have blown off in the high winds. I live about half-way up England (or one-third of the way up the whole UK) on the West coast but, fortunately, very close to a botanical garden containing many exotic tree species, some of which have changed colour...

Laura Weishaupt
I am a bit south and west of the Poconos in the "higher elevations". There is good color to be found, but often with a green background. Hickories and many oaks are deep bronzy gold while mountain and striped maples are bright red. Other maples are mixed, some turning, some green, and ginkos I've seen are quite green. Beech and birches are gold. Ash around here are about done. There are very nice colors in the understory. Many viburnums, especially acerfolium, are displaying a wonderful range of color from pastel pink to deep maroon. Dogwoods have turned and many leaves are gone. Overall the woods have that soft gold light cast about.

We are due for some cooler temperatures. From the photos posted it looks like there is some nice color and clouds out there.

larry_smith25
I was at Harriman this past Sunday. It looked to me that about 30% of the trees had turned with a lot of green still left. I also tried to park at the lot near Lake Kanawauke and found the road closed so had to divert to Lake Skannatati where I climbed a trail and took this picture (if I manager to upload it right) of Lake Skannatati and Kanawauke in the background. I plan to go again this coming Sunday and expect the colors to be much better.

Glenn McCreery
I went for a hike today near Victor, Idaho (just over the hill from Jackson Hole). The fall colors have about reached their peak and the aspen leaves are starting to fall off the trees.

Glenn McCreery
Here is another photo taken today from near Victor, Idaho. The Tetons are in the background. The temperature was in the mid-50's; just right for hiking.

dave_wilson1
Dotty, so far not much worth shooting. The Virginia Creeper along my fence just went all red, haha, but nothing much else is happening. If I see anything sparking up I will post up or PM message you with specifics. BTW, I am in touch with another fellow who goes with his wife everywhere to photog birds, and he'll tell me too. Maybe one day we can even all meet somewhere not too far and have a fall shootout. Just an idea...
dee_hornbacher
Went out intent on getting some firewood, got kind of sidetracked as the aspens were so intense and it had been snowing so needed to spend time looking at everything through my camera. (Still got a load of wood too) So here's one with snow and color together.

tom_mann1
With folks from England to Idaho reporting on their areas, at least a few people noticed that the OP's question was about areas in or near NY state.

Tom M
ccommins
I live near the Poconos and there was no color, they were either green or no leaves. We were right on top of the mountain, last year I took some really colorful pictures.
hjoseph7
This is supposed to be the most colorful week in the Washington DC/Maryland/Virginia area, but so far everything looks pretty green. Some leaves have begun to change but nothing spectacular. Is this global warming ?
steve_levine
The higher elevations in the Catskills seem at peak now. The color change was slow and late. The Hudson Valley maples are still green.
dave_wilson1
All I can say, is it's a very strange year here in north central NJ. My Virginia Creeper on the fence changed to beautiful red as usual. My small red bud tree changed pale yellow and leaves are all falling off very fast. Small fruit tree by curb has shown it's fruit and no change. The forest and field areas around here are very mixed. Saturday I'm going out to shoot some, I'll post up a few.
mikeoday
This image by Deepack Sreedharan is a wonderful fall image and is well worth a look - but you have to see it large to see the full effect (seeing it small is misleading - it could be mistaken for a digitally manipulated image - I think that is why it's got low ratings so far)
http://www.photo.net/photo/14477768&size=md
steve_levine
This was taken 3 days ago near Rhinebeck, NY in the Hudson valley. The maples and oaks in the background are finally showing some color.

dave_wilson1
I didn't want to be accused of not keeping my word. I GUESS you could say the colors here in central NJ have/are/already did/might be changed/changing. I'm going to shoot some abstracts and patterns with my long lenses, but as for overall shots, it's not that exciting. Certainly a strange year with the snow we had last week and now the lack of real color presesnce. None the matter, I'll find something worth capturing.

charles_wood
Unfortunately, I've never had the opportunity to photograph fall colors in NE. However, this year the colors are looking to be great here in SW Utah. Here is a shot taken last Wednesday in the Zion back country at about 5500-6000 feet along the West Rim Trail descending into Potato Valley. The reds are about as brilliant as I've ever seen them in this part of the world. I was told today the colors are starting in the main Zion Canyon.

shutterbug78
Thanks for the info about Zion Charles...I would love to be there right now. We are going to the Giant Saqoyia Forest....will that have Fall color in a week or 2?
