Back in the days of film, PP had their annual "color issue" wherein they did an extensive rundown of all the color

films available, print & slide. But, did they ever do one exclusively for B&W? I'd like to find an issue, online

perhaps somewhere not too far back comparing all the B&W's but can't locate. Anyone might know?

I know that they did and I subscribed for a number of years. They did this more than once. I believe it was part of a "Black and White" issue that they would often do annually. It certainly created the desire to get out there and try different emulsions, at least for me. I wish I could give you more help on what to look for. Other magazines did so as well. Photo Techniques would often run detailed reports on individual films. These were really detailed and written by expert technicians.

While Mordern Photography existed, I never trusted Popular Phpotography
as they Liked everything they talked about. apparently if some ithem mor camera was a DOG, they just did not mention it.
it was THAT obvious. Leter issues whe HK took over were better,
but things were more " promotional" and not much more honest.
perhaps too"
this is the latest and greatest and BETTER" or very superficial and lacking in detail.
I think treating all readers as "dumb blondes" ( sorry about that if your hair is not dark)

I gave up on photo magazines shortly after Modern died. HK was good and honest, but he was possibly overwelmed by 'committies"

Mr. Degroot…

Your post was spot on. I dropped my American subscriptions and begin subscribing to one particular English photo magazine about 10-15 years ago. Two fellows seemed to have a major say in the magazine’s content and I found them ‘fairly honest” in their reviews. Then the change came and it was “Popularized” and the team broke up. Since then I have tried several European magazines and think England’s Amateur Photographer is the best.
