Jose: Love the photo, my eyes are drawn towards the single boat at the bottom.

Sjord: That picture has a timeless quality to it, obviously enhanced by the B&W and the classic car.

Robert: Great simplicity.

Nina: The positioning lends you to believe it's a golden fruit hanging off the tree. :D

jfzhang: Incredible sky, great contrast between the sky and ground.

The graduating textile and apparel seniors from University of Texas at Austin put on a fashion show last Friday, this is one of my favorite shots of the night.

00TCyH-129621584.jpg.88b09a899a5a3f4359f386654dacb55c.jpg

My neighbor has a Mahonia shrub growing in his front yard. I'd never noticed it before but yesterday I saw it had the most beautiful grape-like berries. I just thought they were so colorful and really made me think more of Fall rather than Spring.

When I go through these WedNEsDAy pics, I always try to guess which camera was used. I do pretty well picking out the D700/D3 pics which is kind of surprising because the IQ between all of these cameras, especially at ISO 400 or less, is very similar. The colors seem a bit more vibrant and the pictures a bit crisper. I wonder how much of this is the camera, vs. the lens (likely a good lens on a D700) or the photographer (likely a good photographer behind it).

Any thoughts!?

James, that astounding picture of the Mahonia shrub takes the cake so far. What astounding colors, you are right, the leaves remind me of fall as well.

So many great shots all around. These ones I like in particular:

Shawn, your picture is wonderful, I wish I could see as well!

Pedro, love the textures and simplicity of shapes and colors in that shot.

Hector, I feel cold just watching the shot, great job!

Monika I love the minimality of color amd the narrow DoF. Even though the subject is a slimy character, this is a great picture.

Richard, I love the ominous atmosphere. It is reaaly interesting how that little blue sky peeks through, that makes the shot.

jf Zhang, wonderful blues and greens, and beautiful streaks in the clouds. Beautiful shot. I can't help wondering though if a crop removing the clump of trees on the left and a bit of the green on the bottom would make the shot even better.

Michael S, that's a wonderfully moody and evocative shot.

Gary, the lighting and treatment are perfect for the delicate flowers. Well done!

Trevor, that's a very creative angle.

Waldemar, I only recently learnt about this Kiron lens, and your pic adds to the list of great macros from this lens.

PS: I forgot to include the particulars of my shot, although the EXIF is there: D300, Nikon 85mm f/1.8D, ISO200, f/5.6, 1/60s, CLS with one SB800 on the floor behind the kids lighting the BG and a handheld SB800 reflected off a gold-reflector to the subject right.

Since it's spring and an appropriate IR pic already posted, I'll continue with an IR pic. This is a visible light + IR light mixed in the same exposure on a modified D70 with the brought out a bit more by using a polarizer (and an unorthodox WB). I took three pictures with a Voigtländer 20/3.5 and stitched them together with a cylindrical to produce the image here. The cylindrical projection is very interesting because one can create wide panoramas without the stretching in the edges. I'm still working a bit on how to process the colors, I'm probably going to work on the orangeish red of the grass. This picture looks a lot more lively than the "ghost picture" using a #87 IR filter. In any case the actual talking and workflow for this kind of pic is somewhat complex. Hope I didn't bore you with the technical elaboration :-)
The actual scene is from a brand new park on a weekend afternoon (the newness explains why the plants are so meager). In the background a shallow bay can be seen, behind it one of the best bird spotting areas in a wide radius. There are no leaves on the trees this time of the year.

00TD3V-129677584.jpg.b48b10328539e273633c4198f1ff667a.jpg

I had my first class this week in studio lighting. The photo below is the from the workshop. I learned a tremendous amount in one day and had a lot of fun with the lights: hot, strobe, softboxes, spots, fresnel, etc. Looking forward to learning more in the next few weeks.

00TD49-129681584.jpg.4f3b22cd930ed1f9a3b888b877c3a062.jpg

I'm actually taking a few days off from most forum activity to work on a personal photo project, but had to peek in on the Wed Pic thread. The diversity is always refreshing. It's the most enjoyable part of the week!

MS Keil asks:

Is it legal to post a picture taken with a Fuji S5 + Nikkor XXX/fY?

Absolutely! Any Nikon equipment, including the Nikon mount Fuji dSLRs, is suitable for these Wednesday Pic threads. A CoolScan used to scan photos taken with non-Nikon equipment should also be fine. Using just a Nikon UV filter on a non-Nikon camera outfit? Probably marginal, there's no significant effect on the photo, but let's not split hairs. But a Nikon FC-E9 fisheye adapter on a non-Nikon camera? That should be okay since the adapter has a significant effect on the photo.

Susan: Done! No problem.

Jose, as always, thanks for leading us off and for making those clarifications in the opening statement.

Sorry, traveling in Europe with very slow connection so I can see only a few photos I'll look at the rest when I get home.

This is from Bath, England. Recommended by PNetters and well worth it. The sky was bleak gray so first time I tried a multi-exposure without a tripod. Still needs some work but the structures came out nice after de-saturating.

"Manhole cover and blossom" is beautiful! It's also nice to see more B&W stuff here as well. Makes me a bit embarrased to offer this rather mundane early "pop" using my new Nikkor 14-24mm AFSGIFEDN or whatever the letter collection is! Anyway, shot at 14mm and f/8 at about 1/250th.

00TD8H-129719584.jpg.5a03aaf3c206d50f9a22214e5ba11b48.jpg

I know it's been said before, but so many great shots this week folks...to many to mention but I will say Rene, that I agree with others in that I really like your shot. I just came back from a vacation myself...make sure you take time to relax and chill out!

My contribution is actually from that very trip to Florida of a bird sitting in a tree of the backyard of my brother's house.

Again, great shots and have a great week all.
