PHOTO.NET IS DOWN

photo.net is essentially down at this point, after an important disk

failed. I am working to restore it from backups and I hope we will be

back within a few hours.

 

The Gallery is essentially down, except for any thumbnails that might be cached. The Forums are up, except for any uploaded attachments such as photos. The static articles are more or less up.

Got server error message for Photo.net and Outlook Express problem at same time so maybe not only this site.

That is why I get this?:

"We had a problem processing your entry:

The date or time was specified in the wrong format. The date should be in the format Month DD YYYY.

Please back up using your browser, correct it, and resubmit your entry. "

At the moment P.N. seems to be the only thing standing. I cant access most of the sites I usualy do.

Photos are back, great work guys - guess the comments servers are still offline though.

The site is still not really up properly. A lot of things are broken.

Down but not out! Have you tried hitting the "any" key? To start,hit any key. And don't forget about that handy coffee cup holder on your computer. A little computer humour to keep your spirits up,Brian. But,you guys do seem to keep it running nicely,so we won't complain about a little down time.

Sorry to here there are problems Brian and I am to far away(UK) to give a hands-on assistance but I am a computer engineer/technician and offer my verbal/written assistance and/or software to reclaim data from a partly damaged hard-drive. EEK! The nightmare of finding Photonet down, is exceeded only by the nightmare of having to deal with getting it back online! Things are sluggish and limping, but you're coming along, Brian :) Good luck with the rest of it!

Brian, is this the cause of the disappearing comments? I just emailed Jeremy at abuse, notifying him of the comments that have mysteriously disappeared on a number of my images, including the current TRP.

Some people have NO patience. Geesh. Just wait OK?

Terrible time to bring it up, but RAID1?

A lot is back at this point. We lost the system disk on our main network file server, and we cannot get into that system to assess the damage until we rebuild the system and are able to log in. That system has many other disks mounted on it, which most likely are intact, but we won't know for sure for a while, and for the time being those disks are gone.

 

Meanwhile, we have set up a standby system as a network file server and are rebuilding the lost disks from backups.

 

All attachments for forum posts are still gone. Top Rated Photos is off-line because the file server that is gone also was the system that did all the TRP calculations. That box was also the mail server, so all our email mailboxes are down, including subscribers' @photo.net forwarding addresses.

 

However, a lot is up now. We will be rebuilding the rest over the next few hours, but we probably won't be fully back for a couple of days.

all that talk about rebuilding systems always reminds me of those sci-fi books. like the Hyperion or Endymion where that ship can rebuild itself but it takes a bit of time.

 

I guess the interesting people list is also part of the messed up stuff too.
