Jochen_S
I must do landscapes alone; I'd be a burden on non photographers as soon as I use even a monopod. For studio work, essays and any large creative process I like the feedback or ideas of others. Comradary is nice at concerts.
acearle
Depends....street, I tend to shoot alone. Nature and landscapes, alone. Models or studio, I shoot with an assistant. I think the shots I get when I shoot alone are better than when I have the distraction of interacting with another person.
vatovec
I shoot models, so i prefer to be alone - no make up artist, stylist just me and the model on few occasions there was a make up artist that must be a woman - can`t explain it works for me. Never got a "keeper" when i got out with my fellow photographers friends - usually we end up in some bar drinking lotta coffee - but the exchange of ideas and tecnicalities is worth those trips! jeffpolaski
By myself. Since I am a courteous kind of guy, when I am with someone else I tend to try to pay attention to that person, and my photo concentration suffers.
jay_de_fehr
With my subjects who are not models. A nice walk, a good conversation, and some photos as well. Perfect.
claudia__
I shoot with my Irish Wolf Hound and my pinhole or toy cameras, all of these make people give me a really w i d e berth. I'm scary in the field. But for the brave, I love chatting with them.
joe604
Interesting that nearly all respondents favor working alone. I too like solo, but I prefer going with the wife. The main factor is that she usually gives me the freedom to play at my own pace. And even if the outing is a complete bust for photos, at least there is the enjoyment of each others company to offset the frustration.
lee_shively
I prefer to shoot alone. But I usually end up being disappointed.
Allen Herbert
I try to shoot with anyone. It amuses me when they keep a distance from me when i'm shooting street. Love to watch their enthusiastic feet scampering into the distance.
chelsea
Most of the time I prefer to shoot alone, but it is fun once in a while to get together with other photog friends. I've had the opportunity to visit with some online friends in California and had a wonderful time shooting places new to me. One thing I've noticed, in always every instance where I've been with other people shooting, we all tend to wander off in our own directions. Rarely do we ever stand together in a line shooting the same subject at the same time. Part of the fun is comparing images later, and seeing the many different perspectives of the same subject or scene. Another plus for shooting in a group is the safety factor. In my home area or familiar turf I'm happy to hike off by myself with all my gear. But when visiting an unfamiliar city I don't feel quite so confident as a woman alone to be hauling out expensive looking gear.
grain
The most satisfying expedition I took to Nova Scotia was with Joseph P. Bevillard in 1998, if anyone knows him I'd sure like to get back in touch. We bounced ideas around the whole trip and had agreed that if one or the other saw a shot we'd stop regardless if we agreed it was worth it. It was a sheer blast. The other 90% of photographers I know would be more difficult, as they are by nature egotists.<div></div>
daniel_smith6
It would be nice to shoot alone almost all the time but the NFL issues credentials to so darned many that we have to share the sidelines. In my outdoor & personal work I shoot alone or with a few friends I am comfortable with.
jim kerr
I seem to take better photos when I'm not distracted by others for a few minutes at a time.
