I recently bought one. I am satisfied, but the lens could be better - especially at the corners - no problem however at the center.
The long times shutter mode is manual (kinda) except You don't have control over the aperture it works for times longer than 1 s.
-
No problem whatsoever from day 1. My library has "only" 7552 files.
Using an Intel Imac 20" with only 1gb RAM - and it isn't slow either.

Externals could be used as scratch that is definite.
FW400 is faster than USB2.0 or not? - because i allready have an USB 2.0 disk.
If i do make a partition, isn't that counterproductive if the image is on the same disk as the scratch?
Thank U Ellis, i knew about the RAM but it was this iMac or 2months waiting.

OK, here we go:
I just changed system after years of Windows since 3.11 on, i finally shifted to
mac OS X. I bought an Intel iMac dual core 2 duo 2.16Ghz with 1Gb of RAM (which
will be upgraded to 3GB shortly).
Now i will need an external scratch disk (will i actually gain speed?) - i
didn't find any definite answer on this.
And if i need it - i have only FW400 - will i gain something if i get a 7200rpm
drive over an 5400rpm one?
Also is the size of the drive important?
THX for help.

Will it have a "Direct Print" button?
-
I`m more worried about the develop parameters of the images - i have the originals on DVDs, i don`t want additional copies, just want to retain the develop parameters.
-
I would like to ask if i choose the export option in the adobe lightroom app it
will then be readable on the mac version of the software?
This is one of the questions i din`t find an answer anywhere, did somebody tried
this?

Relatives = no charge. Is that simple!

Arbus photographed "mercelessly" without glamour or artifice she photographed truth, often with on camera flash and on medium or large format, so every flaw would be revealed.
The viewer sees this flawed image and he cannot relate to the subject - he DON`t WANT to relate to her subjects (...poor boy, I`m no freak,...).
And that constitutes otherness. Her subjects are all the same, it is she that is the freak, we all are freaks.

AA, was a master craftsmen - so more into the historic position. And he made a big contribution to photography with his zone system exposure/develop/print method (though i never encountered another photographer which uses the full zone system method in my life).
To today`s standards (mine, OK) his photographs are beautiful landscapes and that`s it - for me.
BTW - the one medical photo with the monkey is really great! Now that is some new AA!

LaChapelle, Gursky and Loretta Lux are coming out of the crowd!

Dark Matter (BTW what a wonderfull nick!).
I was a film user and made extensive B&W work on my own. Then i bought a G4 just to have a camera to allways go along with me - discovered RAW and was impressed - i saw the potential (the camera was 4MP).
Then i bought a 10D that in my eyes matches 35mm film (slide) till 8x12" at 100ISO and excels film from 400 ISO and above in all print sizes.
2 months ago i got a 5D - and i think this is the borderline camera - this 13MP piec of kit equals 35mm film in allrespects - except maybe B&W.
Ishoot 100TMAX and TP in 35mm format and i must say that it has not more resolution than digital files from the 5D (i did not use a top notch enlarger however).
I allways thought that the limit enlargment from 35mm film is 12x18" but with the 5D i go smoothly till 28x40".
The B&W esthetic is very peculiar and an individual matter of taste in some pictures the film grain is gorgeous and can be a creative plus in some not - the digital gives You infinite creative paper surfaces if You go the ink route - try prints on canvas this is something amazing.
All and all i think that the 5D is allways better than scans from film, but maybe in B&W the direct darkroom print can have an edge - but we`re talking high end here,...
But at the end of the day is the IMAGE that counts be it digital, film or some other stuff,....

JC I was talking about the "Leica processing" over the "Panasonic" processing - all other parts, being almost identical.
-
I think that is called marketing.

The Leica M8 has a Kodak 1.3x crop sensor, the Nikon has a 1.5x crop Sony sensor, they are not the same!
You should read those two articles by Erwin Putts:

The first is long but VERY insightfull.

How the hell could this conversation improve our images?

Not to mention a 22bit D/A converter! A unique feature among digitals of any price range,... this autumn will be interesting!

And the picture styles printers will have direct camera button!

I WAS SHOCKED!
A 50mm 1.2L at 1600 USD (that would be 1600 EUR here in Europe). I think that`s too much. At five times the price of tha 50 1.4 (which is a very good lens) it rather be perfect from 1.2 on!
I allways thought it is more difficult to design a 35mm 1.4 or a 135 f2 than a 50 f1.2, go figure,...

I think the EOS line is now aproaching the film line of SLRs.
A cheapo 400D and an even cheaper 350 (drop in price continuation of production?).
The 5D would also drop in price near next spring. I don`t know what happens with the 30D - i think it would become a 40D with maybe a 1.3 crop sensor.
There would be place for a 3D then - maybe in september next year.
The 1D merged 22 or whatever pixels is due at this years Photokina (star of the show).
Seeking wedding photographer referrals for a wedding in London
in Wedding & Event

Hello. I am willing to surrender my RAW files at an additional cost however, and shoot both film and digital - we are allways in two on the weddings we shoot (me and my girlfriend photographer).
Although we are from Slovenia we are sure that prices over here are very low comparable to UK wedding shooters. Give us a try for the quote.
Our business is a respectable one in our country.
