    The tree

          2

    Hi Gianluigi,

A daring composition with the tree in the center. I like it; it has good tonal range and it shows how not 'following' the rules of composition pays off (if you know what you're doing). Kind regards, Vincent

  1. On a visit to a car junkyard in southern France in 1988. I think the car is a Moskvich, which have been sold in France for a short period, equipped with a French engine.

Photo made with an Olympus OM-10 and an Olympus Zuiko 50 mm 1.8 lens handheld on Agfapan 100 film. Aperture was probably 5.6, shutter time 1/60 sec.

    Hi Patrick,

The composition of this image is so strong that it almost makes me forget about the content and edit. You're the only photographer I know of to have made the process of building to a main category in your portfolio. The sepia treatment lends a timeless look to the photo. Kind regards, Vincent

  2. Hi Franz,

I really like this image! Unfortunately we haven't got a 'favorite' category anymore. The lines and textures the photo is composed of, are divided into two parts, which make the image more interesting. The seemingly lack of color is a plus too. Well done! Kind regards, Vincent

  3. Hi Edoardo,

Another wonderful image showing the beauty of architectural treasures in their environment. I really like the light, colors and composition, which I've seen in many other of your photos too. Kind regards, Vincent

    Fun of Canoeing

    Hi Evgeny,

as always, great composition leading the viewer's eye into the image. I've not been in a canoe many times, but in this location it must be quite something. Maybe it was exactly like that, but the colors look a bit bleak. Kind regards, Vincent

  4. Hi Dana,

I wrote a lengthy comment, but thanks to the new site's tecnical design it's gone now. In short:

Great light and colors, nice simple composition, don't forget to check your histogram photographing a bright scene like this one.

    Oh and it's back now!
    Kind regards, Vincent

  5. Hi Dana,

as I've noticed, you like wide vistas; although you have shot this with a tele, there's still that sense of space. The seemingly lonesome big horn looks great against the dark blue sky (which luckily has some clouds in it). Keep watching your histogram while shooting a bright scene like this. I like the light and the simplicity in this composition. Kind regards, Vincent

    Hi G & V,

Very nice capture of this female cardinal! The light and the colors are warm, the branches with berries frame this shy bird wonderfully. Those two bright orange leaves alas are a distraction from the beauty of this image. Kind regards, Vincent

    Extra eyes!

    Hi Laurent,

Funny shot! Squirrels are naturally  very alert; maybe it feels some competition here. It was certainly  alert enough when it saw the cat. Kind regards, Vincent

    Hi Patrick,

I agree with Gianluigi; this looks like graphic work. Nicely balanced composition, well chosen background color, I like it. Kind regards, Vincent

    Hi Gary,

intriguing shot of this object (is it a part of a technical appliance?). I like the square crop and the greenish coloring. The burnt highlights (although they aren't disturbing in this photo) from the flash could be modified by using a flash diffuser of some sort. Great work. Kind regards, Vincent

  6. Hi G & V,

thanks for your concern about my headache, but I made this photo 8 years ago, so it should be over by now. Funny your area looks similar; in what part of the US do you live? Kind regards, Vincent

  7. Hi Jane,

a colorful yet soothing 'little landscape'. I quite like this kind of exploration of small places in nature. The fallen tree with moss on it adds something special to the composition and counterbalances the green ash leaves on the right. Kind regards, Vincent
