Oh I didn't know what the OP was talking about and I read the manual and found the template is simply a neutral density filter. In which case I much rather use it without.

You can see a US and Canada price history here:
https://www.photoprice.ca/product/06403/Nikon-D850-price.html
I don't know how these prices reflect overall prices in the market since they're from specific stores, but you can see that the price is sometimes higher, sometimes lower, over the course of several years.
The chart doesn't seem to be right.

How long Nikon has been selling the D850 for $2200? Someone told me that it's on sales but I think Nikon has been selling it for the same price for a long time. I think Nikon doesn't put camera they don't make any more on sales.

Both the latest version of Adobe Camera Raw and Nikon NX Studio will open all the *.nef files. You have to pay to use the Adobe one. The Nikon one is free.

I never use my DSLR in live view mode because doing so it's no longer an SLR. I use and SLR because I want an SLR.
-
In live view mode there is no mirror slap noise but the shutter makes more noise than in the viewfinder mode because it has to close, open, close, then open again for every shot.

When my early 1970's Nikomat FTN began developing some problems in the mid-80s, I bought the then newly introduced Minolta 7000 Maxxum on the advise of a friend who was a Minolta fan. Used it consistently for over 15 years with very good results and basically no issues before gradually switching over to digital. There was an initial learning curve getting used to the automatic functions of the 7000, but eventually they became second nature and I found the camera very easy to use. One of the earliest lessons I learned the hard way was to keep the battery charged, something that would not have prevented the Nikon from functioning.
Best tip from me would be to start running film through it.
Really you use rechargeable batteries in the Maxxum 7000?
-
Yes like others have recommended. Just read the manual. The 7000 was the first Minolta autofocus camera and in no way it's a manual camera although it can be used in manual just like most of the digital cameras nowaday.

I occasionally read posts where someone either has problems using their equipment, or is dissatisfied with the results obtained. For me, the issue is easily explained :
The equipment was built by experts - I was not. Therefore, the problem is more like to reside with me than the equipment.
Thoughts, anyone ?
How many of those experts can take photos as good as the many photographers who use their cameras and surely not knowing how to build one? 2 different skills.

First I must agree with AJG that some how the non TTL auto is more reliable than TTL. I don't know how.
But back to TTL. In the beginning the TTL needs a light sensor sitting at the bottom of the mirror box reading light reflected of the film and when digital came around they found that the reflection from the imaging sensor doesn't work well. So they had to do preflash. Now that all mirrorless camera use the imaging sensor for AF, ambient light exposure measurement can they use the imaging sensor to measure flash as well?
I guess not.

Nikon will have to develop video lenses which they can do. Not a problem. Does RED own any manufacturing facilities? And where are their factories located?
-
I can't see how it doesn't allow you to set f/22. Auto Indexing is really no indexing.

Back in the late 70's I considered the Rollei 35 and the Minox EL as a compact camera. Finally I setted on the Olympus XA.

I think the battery is likely to swell when you charge it. I have laptop with swelled batteries and like wise you would charge the Iphone battery inside the phone.
-
I much rather using Jurassic stuff than Chinese made stuff.
-
Why do you think the display is not correct?
-
In fact if the internal battery goes bad I would find shop that is willing to cut it out. I don't care for the cloc/calendar function.

If you don’t leave an EN-EL** inside the camera, after a long time, e.g. months, the internal battery runs out, and you will lose your settings and the clock will reset.
I don't worry about losing time. I worry about if the internal battery got depleted for a long time it may not take the charge any more so that when you put the EN-EL back in there it keeps draining it because it would constantly charge but not full. Unlike top end cameras like the D5 which has user replaceable battery for this, my Df will have to send it to Nikon and in the future Nikon may not even service it any more.

I would keep a full charged battery in the camera. I too am afraid that the internal battery gets discharged for a long time and goes dead. Unlike some top of the line cameras, the internal battery in my camera is not user replaceable so it would be expensive to have Nikon do it and down the road Nikon wouldn't even do it.

I am all for getting rid of the mechanical shutter but I don't really feel I would need the global shutter.
-
I like the camera but it's not full frame. If it's full frame it would be a great camera with the film advance level (used only for shutter cocking). Even with the rewind knob. So cool.

If you only run Adobe software then I think the Mac is best.

Thanks for that. Yes, I agree, I am not mad on the display of the F3. I tend to use my FM2 or F2 more, TBH. The F4 viewfinder is superb and in fact, I am taking an F4 and a couple of lenses and some C41 film this week for a family trip to Porto in northern Portugal. Both my F4s have good but not perfect LCD displays now, being 30 years old. Best GW
The F4 has more display problem than the F3. I saw many F4's with bleeding display.

Since you currently still have the 2 good Wein cells. I would recommend you to buy these
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1062352-REG/exell_battery_a625px_1_5v_alkaline_battery.html?ap=y&smp=y&lsft=BI%3A514&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw1K-zBhBIEiwAWeCOF7f0C6YYktUt3AScNiIb4aJWj7CvAqdnIyqDgKQ85NlfFCC4tUW-rhoCCTcQAvD_BwE
They are cheap and fit perfectly in your camera. Compare readings with the Wein cell and see how much off you are. May be not by a significant degree.
