  1. Yesterday I was exploring the new feature, Auto Capture. I noticed in the Subject Detection mode that "bird" was not an option. The options were: auto, people, animals, cars and planes. I mentioned that last night on the Paul Van Allen webinar. Neither he nor Mark Comon were aware of that issue. I would imagine that should be an easy fix.
  2. Z8. Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S at 200mm. 1/32000 sec @ f/2.8. ISO 560
  3. Ice Cube Z8. Z 105mm f/2.8 VR S.
  4. That is a nice photo Shun, especially being a night shot. Taking a photo at night was a lot more difficult back then. The photo I posted was taken in 1988.
  5. Mary, The dots were created by the sun reflecting off of water. The egret was in a wet marsh-type area and the vegetation was covered in water which created the dots. I was shooting towards the south/southwest somewhat towards the sun which was getting low in the sky.. I was slightly above the egret so the background was the vegetation in the lake. I under exposed the background a little to make it less distracting, but perhaps I didn't darken it enough. Shun, my lens was the Nikkor Z 400mm f/4.5 VR S but I had the Z TC-1.4x attached. The settings were 1/3200 second @ f/6.3. ISO 1000/
  6. Shun, Texas may not be one of the more popular destinations for birding but there are several bird sanctuaries, rookeries and wildlife refuges along the Gulf Coast. Texas is on the path of many migratory birds heading south and north, and some stay in the area for the winter. In the Spring I see many out-of-state license plates on cars in the parking lots. Egrets, herons, cormorants and spoonbills, for example, nest in the area in the Spring. Port Aransas has its annual Whooping Crane Festival.
  7. Shun, I took this photo last Sunday, 12/31/2023 at the Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge in Anahuac, TX which is about 30 miles east of Houston. (They just conducted a bird count there last month which yielded a count of 151 species.) There were two Crested Caracaras together sitting on adjacent fence posts. They were not very skittish as I was able to get pretty close. The photo is not heavily cropped. I have seen them a couple times in the Southeast Texas area but on previous encounters I was unable to get decent photos. The technical data for the photo is: Nikon Z8, Z 400mm f/4.5 VR S. 1/1250 sec @ f/8. ISO 1000.
