  1. I have been a Photo.net member since 2015. Suddenly my email is no longer recognized and I cannot login from my computer starting about 5/29.2020. I cannot create a new password either. I get an error message that says there are no users with my credentials. I created this new account because there seemed to be no other way to contact anyone for help to restore my ability to login from my computer. My smart phone goes right into my account, but I do not work from my smartphone. I'm asking for help to fix my account. I have 115 photos posted. - Mick Simpson
  2. Perhaps a higher resolution solution could help the informants currently jailed or on the run see the way forward more clearly. Great feedback guys.
  3. Just curious if the new EOS R might be a step towards a medium format Canon future?
  4. :-) I see that the images are back up (mine and the gallery). I hope that all of the issues are resolved for everyone.
  5. Hit the wrong part of the touch screen before finishing my post. I've used three different Windows 10 (1709) systems, restarted them, cleared cache, used Edge and IE11. I am a retired IT consultant and am anal about system maintenance and updates. All of my systems have the same result loading photos. I also see other posts from users having the same issues. I was able to view galleries and my portfolio on February 10th with minor issues - not all image thumbnails loading but the picture loaded when I selected the image placeholder. Not a user or system problem here. I do also see that while I was able to access my portfolio and galleries on February 10, 2018; I have an alert from "Spammer" on February 11th at 2:04PM that he likes my status.

  7. It's also a matter of trust and competence. First, you don't deploy changes until you have tested them thoroughly and made attempts to break your new site / functions. I can't speak to the process that the Photo.net team used, but I read here that the problems are widespread and serious. Furthermore I read here that the problems are unresolved for a period of weeks without any legitimate signs of fixes. Did they consider a rollback to the old site that worked? This is a shameful example of IT incompetence and total disrespect for the customers, visitors, and sponsors.
  8. I can login, but I cannot view my own portfolio nor can I view the galleries including the focused views such as Editor's Picks, Trending, Photo of the Day/Week, etc... I get a spinner for all of these attempts to view images. I can access and read the Canon EOS thread, read posts, and view the photos in the weekly messages including the 2/15/18 post.
  9. Thanks JDMvW! I've visited Bob's site, albeit not frequently enough, and will definitely will check this out. I've also taken some of your advice in the past and look forward to more tidbits. Thanks! Mick
  10. Hello akocurek. Based on what I've read so far I expect this telescope and DSLR combo to be a challenging act to balance. The OTA (Optical Tube Assembly for those astronomers out there) is not the best. We'll see what this old dog can do with our gear and what we can accomplish with out images. Keeping my fingers crossed for a good outing. MICK
  11. Hi Jochen. Thank you for the info regarding star trackers. We'll start to look into motorized trackers following our first outing and determining just how deep the interest is. We already have the telescope, the old DSLR 40D (I also have a 5DMIII) so we have enough equipment to test the waters. I think I'll watch some YouTube videos as well before I go out with the girls to make sure things go as smooth as possible with the stuff we have. I'll have to try and get their Mom to join us too. I think I just need to get that T mount. Mick
  12. Hi Marcus. This is astronomy 101 for my 2 granddaughters (11 & 14) and myself (OMG 68!). They are both very interested in astronomy and surprised me when I found out that they are reading some serious astronomy book on their own and watching astronomical documentaries. So while we do not have the best telescope, no motorized tracking and an older EOS 40D, we will use this as a starting point from which we can determine how far these two young ladies want to go. I want to encourage them if this truly is a field they want to pursue. You do bring up some interesting approaches that I had not considered, e.g. stacked images. Lots to learn! Thanks!
  13. I recently obtained a Celestron Power Seeker 114 reflecting telescope and want to mount an EOS body for astronomy photos. The telescope has 1.25" eyepieces. Specs are Aperture = 114mm, focal length 900mm, focal ratio f/8. I am not quite sure how to mount the camera but believe that need a T mount. Is there anyone out there that has mounted an EOS body to a reflecting telescope? I would value any help and/or tips for this effort as I have 2 granddaughters that are into astronomy and this will be my surprise for them. Thanks!
  14. Thank you William, and may I extend my thanks to
  15. Hi Marcus. The extent to which I adopt filters is something that I will try to decide as I play around with my limited set of old filters - from long, long ago when I used a film camera, Canon T70. Mick
  16. Hi William. Mine is the 24-70 f2.8 II. I'm not sure if that makes a difference with regard to your lens hood comments. Mick
  17. OK, there is a lot of great additional feedback from everyone. Provided I go with step-up rings I would start with a single step-up ring; 77mm-82mm to use with my 16-35mm f4L and 24-105mm f4L lenses (77mm filter threads). My 24-70 f2.8 has 82mm filter threads. I have an old 72mm CP filter for my 28-135mm lens. That would provide me with the capability to use a CP filter with all of my lenses. As for the lens hood, I had not considered that so it looks like I will have to modify my approach a bit as a result. I'll start by playing with my old 72mm CP and hold off buying the step-up ring and any additional filters. I'll start some tests consistent with my favored type of photography including learning to manage color banding and other issues such as William Michael brought up. During that time I will consider my results, my favored shooting, and my "need" for CPs or other filters. You guys are all great! Mick
  18. I like the idea of using a step up rings with 82mm filters where one gets a set of filters. For now I'm limiting myself to a CP but am thinking of getting an 82mm CP with step up rings. William, I get what color banding is, but are you saying that the CP filter will cause this under all circumstances with a 5D (FF) where focal length is greater than 35-40mm, or only where there is a predominant sky? Mick
  19. Hi Jochen. LOL! I am a bit too lazy too when it comes to dragging a tripod around with me. Going to go forward with CP in my kit sans all of the others as everyone has helped me see the alternative methods for achieving my desired results. Thank you! Mick
  20. Hi Paddler4. Thanks for your feedback. I am going to run with a CP filter for now sans all others. It seems like there are easier and less expensive ways to get the same results, with some exception I think for the CP filter. Mick
  21. Thanks for your feedback JDMvW. I believe that I will go forward without filters at this time and do most of the work in post-processing. Mick
  22. Hi Mark. The YouTube link you provided, and other similar YouTube videos, were very helpful to me and strengthen the argument that filters are not always necessary. I still see myself with a CP filter, but now think I can get along quite nicely without ND or UV filters. This is the way I will trudge forward now. Thanks Mark!
