I would try to highlight the catch lights more in her eyes. In lightroom, I use the Iris enhance brush on the whole eye and then dodge brush just on the catch light for this job and if needed I use the burn brush just on the outer circle of the eye. Next time, try to position her so that you see more light in her eyes.
2. Thank you for taking the time to view and critique my image.

4. Patrick - I stand corrected, the original is not RAW - I had my infant son strapped to me that cold, winter, morning and I must not have checked my file setting before shooting as the original is a jpeg.
5. Patrick - First, thanks for the CC, I really appreciate it! Composition is usually the weak spot of my shots! As for the color, this was taken as a RAW file, the 'intense' yellow happened when I processed this. It was done in LR5, mostly when I removed the highlights, turned down to -78 (I usually go all the way to -100, but that made the yellow way too crazy). I am not sure how I feel about the yellow, I like the intensity, I dislike the unnaturalness of it, but when I have put this photo out in other forums most of the feedback I get is that they love the 'look' of the color.
6. Thank you to anyone who takes the time to give me some feedback on this image. This is sunrise at Pt Lonsdale Pier in Victoria, Australia.
7. thank you for the compliment and the welcome!
8. Janine - thank you for the compliment.
9. I am dancing the line between amateur and professional family photographer and feedback on my work is critical in helping me continue to grow as a photographer. A big thanks to anyone who takes the time to give me some CC. This shot is of my son and was taken during a practice session.
10. I love this photo! The only thing I do not like are the power lines - can you crop them out or get rid of them in photoshop or similar post processing program?
11. I love the color of the sunset, but I am missing detail in the foreground and the house. Maybe shooting with a grad filter or opening up the shadows in post processing would help - or maybe even just using a dodge brush on the foreground and house?

15.
Marcus and Alan - thanks again for mentioning the 6D - here is an interesting article/review from someone who went from the 5D MII to the 6D, instead of the 5D MIII. It is an interesting perspective on the choice. http://www.texaschicksblogsandpics.com/why-i-upgraded-from-the-5d-mark-ii-to-the-6d/

16.
Thanks Marcus and Alan for mentioning the 6D - I was considering this and the only reason I was going to go for the 5D is I was worried that a few years down the line, I would have good reason for wanting the 5D and in the end spend more. This is in fact what happened with my T3i - I nearly bought the 6D and thought, well my photos are only for me, so the T3i will do...at that point I simply did not have the confidence to think I could ever do more than shoot as a hobby. Would the 6D also suit for weddings and low light/star situations? I started as a hobbyist doing primarily landscapes and I was just getting into night photography when I got pregnant. Getting out at the wee hours is still a bit hard for me, but weddings and night shooting is something I would like to keep open with my purchase.

Ruben - thank you for the suggestion, I am going to take you up on the testing. I have not done an exercise like the one you suggested. The noise I am seeing is in Lightroom and not on prints. I just assumed I would see the noise on larger prints 16x20 (I think that is the largest recommended print size for my camera).

Rising moon

Beautiful. I love the silhouette of the trees - though maybe less empty space at the bottom. You could crop it to give it a pano look or when doing something similar in the future include more of the sky.
