  1. Thanks Ed. So your experience is that there is no benefit to pixel shifting at the resolution that I'm working out (ie 50mp)? I really appreciate your input done you have actually tried this!
  2. Thanks. My concern was not more image size but indeed the ability to get a more detailed image. Most of my scans are B&W so the Fuji is fine but was curious about Pixel Shift as a qualitative improvement (anti alias, moire and sharpness/contrast). Anyhow, it seems that the majority feels that it will be minimal improvements in the end. Still unsure. I may rent the Sony for a weekend even though it's a hassle.
  3. Great! That's good info. Any view on the benefits of pixel shift though? IQ test show improvements but not sure how it would apply to my needs though and how noticeable it would be when printing Jim Klasson did an interesting test: Sony a7RIV with pixel-shift vs Fujifilm GFX 100
  4. I use the Fujinon 120 macro with the 45 extension. It works fine. It is just really big ;-) I was just curious about the improvements that could come from Pixel Shifting. I really have no idea if it is significant or not!
  5. I have been scanning some of my films (35/120/slide) with my GFX 50 with good results. However, I'm wondering if the new AR7 with pixel shift would make a big difference? Any opinions?
  6. It's a great and classic camera. I had one but the lack of interchangeable lenses and size meant that I kept going back to my Mamiya 7 and Mamiya Universal.
  7. I have an old Billingham 550 bag. The inserts sold by Billingham for it do not fit anymore (they have changed the Velcro placement) and Billingham does not carry those anymore. Anyone had the same issue and came up with a clever solution? Thanks!
  8. 24/2.8 Elmarit in great condition. Purchased from B&H in March 2018. The lens is in PERFECT optical condition and near perfect cosmetic condition. The only issue are some scratches on the removable hood. The lens is sharp, has great contrast and amazing rendering. I'm only selling it because it seats between my 16-21 and 28 lenses. Comes with all original packaging and hoods. I can also sell an original Leica 24mm external viewfinder if you shoot film or don't own an external EVF. Will consider trades against Mamiya 7 lenses.
  9. To close this thread, I sold the body and getting a black one.
  10. Thanks. Resale value is not as important as my working comfort but I get your point. Will see if I can do the gaffer tape or some other covering for it. Cases drive me crazy as you need to remove the camera to load the film. It's bad enough for 35mm with 36 exposures to not want to have to do it for 120 film with 10 exposures each time!
  11. Good idea! I actually did not expect to get a single response for this post so thanks for weighing in - Haha!
  12. Weird question but I really don't like the champagne color which is not very discreet and wondering if anyone had their Mamiya 7 repainted in black. I asked Precision Camera to see if they can do it so will post their answer later as well.
  13. This is great. Very little distortion indeed which was my expectation! Thank you.
  14. I just need to try the lens (duh) as it is not popular enough to get a lot of samples. Thanks
  15. Thanks. It is totally acceptable. The tree on the edge is actually perfectly straight. I indeed need to see something closer to the subject as you mentioned but thank you!
  16. Haha! So true. I did not test the difference of putting a third-party viewfinder on the Mamiya Universal so cannot comment.
  17. Btw, I don't think that you can use another viewfinder as it looks like the OEM 50mm one bends to compensate for parallax as you input the focal distance.
  18. I use the 100/2.8 which is great. I think it is a massively underrated system with wonderful optics. My main cameras are a Leica M10 with APO 50/2 (among others) and a Rolleiflex 2.8D - the Mamiya is in the same league. It is just a little cumbersome and slow to use but it is not meant to be a fast camera so I don't mind. Will do on the 50/6.3 once I get the lens - clearly not a popular choice!
  19. Exactly my issue. The images on Flickr are all over the place. I found some forums where people complained about distortion and some saying that it is distortion-free so go figure. I already bought the lens so I will know soon enough but was really curious to hear from current users. Thanks!
