  2. My go-to Leica dealer recently told me he has pre-orders for 49 M10 Monochrom cameras, which will take about a year to fill!

I honestly feel that 24 megapixels is about maximum with no image stabilization (an add-on "advantage" for the M11, I suspect). My suspicion is that people will be disappointed to discover that 40 megapixels is simply too much for hand-held shooting.

None of the reviewers complained stop far.

  3. Funny coming from the Leica Forum...

Maybe you should be on the Sony, Canon or Nikon forum if you think that we are the Amish of photography. I've used Leica Ms for 20 years for very specific reasons that I find hard to shed (RF, size, silent operation, etc) but with your logic we should still be shooting with M3 cameras because it was good enough. Yet the M6 with TTL was a welcome improvement to the M3/4/5 and Cartier Bresson used one thus embracing new technology like we are now. Then the M7 with Aperture Priority was another welcome addition (God knows I used that feature all the time). Now the M10 is near perfect but yes I could use a little bit more resolution so that I can do bigger prints if I want to. Nothing wrong with that. No I don't need more dynamic range (we had very few stops in the film days and we somehow managed perfectly well).

  4. I visit the Weston Gallery regularly. None of their iconic photographs that have made it to the pinnacle of fine photography and are worthy of being displayed on the walls of Weston Gallery are there because of their high resolution. OK, maybe AA.

And you should ditch your car for a horse and carriage...

  5. I want them to introduce the M11, so M10 prices will drop further and at that point, I'll get an M10, which seems like a pretty darn perfect camera other than less good battery life than the M262 I'm currently using. 24MP is a lot of resolution. The three 30x45 inch metal prints I've had made from M262 files shot in the Canadian Rockies with the 35mm f2 Summicron ASPH had way more than enough resolution.

The M10 is amongst the best Leicas that I have used including my MP (film) and M6 TTL. I can print 30x40 photos with no grain and larger with limited grain. It's near perfect!

  6. Hello -

I also posted this in B&W but not sure if it is the right forum.

Anyhow, I'm a long time B&W film shooter and wanted to buy a #15 filter (which I use with other cameras) but most manufacturers (Heliopan and B+W) are backordered for months. I was going to settle on an orange #16 instead. Two questions:

    1. Is the difference between #15 (deep yellow) and #16 (yellow orange) quite dramatic?

    2. Does the #16 filter "crush" the shadow details or are you still seeing enough to maintain reasonable details in the composition?

Note that these filters will be used on medium format Mamiya cameras.

    Thanks!

  8. GFX 50R used nearly exclusively to scan negatives. Comes with two lenses (GF 32-64 and GF 120 macro). All equipment is still under protection warranty for another 2 years (transferrable). Comes with all original packaging, extra battery, extra power supply (for tethering) and Fuji 45 macro extension.

Would look at swapping against Sony AR7iv and lenses (macro preferred) or mix of trade and cash.

  9. Just wanted to show the size of the Mamiya Press. Its not the most portable system but any means. Here you can see it work the 100mm lens compared to a Leica M10 work 50mm. Also compared to a Rolleiflex. Finally showing a picture of the 50mm lens compared to 28mm Leica lens.

  10. Yes, there are many a nice lens out there that would cover OP's niche 6x3 film requirement. The catch is he wants them to be "very wide" and "very fast", and that is simply not gonna happen with any of the usual suspects. The "fastest" option would likely be a re-purposed smaller format 35mm f/2.8 PC lens, tho most of them are not great performers at f/2.8 across their entire 70mm image circle.

Otherwise, loads of good lenses would cover 6x3, like the press/view optics you mentioned or especially the 75mm f/5.6 Mamiya offered specifically to cover Polaroid format on its Universal body (very large image circle, very sharp lens, very good Schneider knockoff). The 100mm f/2.8 Mamiya you referenced would also be superb (similar quality to legendary 'blad 100mm but faster with larger coverage).

The OP wanted a fast lens thus the 2.8. it is just hard to find a fast speed wide angle MF lens. The Plaubel Makina would be the best choice in my view. It's 6x7 with a great 80/2.8 lens - this is roughly a 38mm lens equivalent.

  11. Hi All

HELP! A camera I've always lusted over was the Mamiya 6. I've currently been offered a 6MF w/ all 3 lenses. The deal is pretty sweet, but that being said is still ALOT of money for me.

I'm buying from interstate and from what I know the camera in question is in 100% working condition with no issues w/ winding mech or bellows. All lenses are fine also. Pictures I've seen of it match description.

That being said, its a 25+ year old camera and from my research understand the bellows & winding mechs of these models maybe susceptible to eventually going. Can those things even be fixed?

So my question -- am I being overly paranoid or take the punt to buy (via Paypal) obviously?

Mamiya 6, 7 and 7ii are AMAZING. Be ready for some repairs at some point. The lenses are rock solid but the bodies can develop issues overtime. The good news is that most of the common issues are relatively easy to fix. Bob Watkins at Precision Camera Works is your friend for that!
