  1. John Seaman , Apr 14, 2015; 05:04 p.m. This is the sort of problem that keeps me awake at night. And why can't I get Goof Off in the UK? I yearn for the good old pre-digital days when you could buy these stickers on a roll, to stick on your equipment and make it look new and unused. ********************************* I just bought a used Canon 2x-b extender. It looks mint.....the sticker that is. Must be one of your "passed" stickers on a roll. :)
  2. ..... and picked up the motor drive for it a month or two later for less than $100. What a tank! ..... Yes it is....The whole setup with a medium size lens must weigh 5 lbs...I use the Joby pro sling camera strap (Jury's still out on it)...What a choke hold around your neck.
  3. Bump to the top :) Nice shots John. I just purchased the 50mm 1.4 fdn. Hope my shots are as good as yours....
  4. Ashley...Jim...All nice shots with the 50mm 1.4.....Do i need to trade in my 50 mm 1.8 ?? :)
  5. Beautiful shots all....I had to google what a "Canon Close Up Lens 500" was...Wow....Gorgeous. No loss in clarity that these eyes can tell !!.
  6. I was amazed at the prices back then. $1039 for a new F1N....I know it's like comparing apples to bowling balls...but i just bought a pretty good conditioned f1n for $ 140.00. Got to love technological advancements and depreciation.
  7. Jim. I do have one of each. I'll give if a try Thanks all
  8. Hi all. Does anybody have any experience with the Vivitar variable ND filters. They are about 1/4 the price of pricier brands. Maybe not as good as a B&W, but are they decent? Thanks. Gary
  9. Another nice shot....I was going to buy one of these $300.00 slide scanners from B&H photo. I hear the results are descent. ...but they are painfully slow..I may outsource the job as well.
  10. Very nice Bill. The clarity of that picture is as good as your recent bird shots....Nice lens....Was it a slide or print, and did you digitize it or have it scanned elsewhere?
  11. Well. I received my prints back from my "test" shoot with the 17mm lens and as you all said..Will not notice anything. The prints looks perfect. I think I'll keep it:). Now all I need is some springtime color here in New England. Thanks again for all your help.
  12. Bill. Nice shots. I like the colored sky reflection in the water on the last shot . I cant wait for our lakes to "water over".
  13. Thanks all for your advice. I did find a local Wallgreens that still develops 35mm film in house, so I'll probably shoot a roll with the lens and see how the pics come out....I'll try to do that before the return window expires. But as you all mention, I think it will be a keeper. You gave me a better comfort level... Here is one web site that shows just how forgiving lens can be. Maybe you've seen it before..(Or have first hand experience yourself :) I enjoyed it. Thanks all again. http://kurtmunger.com/dirty_lens_articleid35.html PS. Robin, you are absolutely correct about over analyzing the lens...Definitely it can breed paranoia, and should not detract from the enjoyment of the hobby....But sometimes I can't remove myself from my job...I'm a quality engineer for a fortune 20 aerospace company. My crutch in life. LOL.... Think of me at 38,000 feet. :)
  14. <p>Hi All.<br> <br />I recently bought a Canon FD 17mm F4 lens with a BW-72 Canon hood for $180.00.The barrel of the lens in almost mint. I mounted it on my Canon new F1 and all is fine mechanically. The REAR element of the lens is mint. There is no haze on the glass/elements. The lens is perfectly clear when shining a bright light through the lens. No fungus. For what it’s worth, looking through the F1 viewfinder it’s perfect. </p> <p>My question has to do with the condition of the front element. There are a few tiny (You need to look for them) “micro” scratches, that cannot be felt with a finger. There are also about 15,….I’ll call them circular “blemishes” in the coating, probably about 1 mm in diameter. Holding the lens a few feet from you, you can’t even notice, but up close is when I can see the “micro” scratches and circular “blemishes”. <br> I spent a few hours surfing the web gathering information as to what, and how severe, “defects” on a lens will affect image quality, and from what I gathered, lens are pretty forgiving. From that information, looking at my lens, the 17mm lens defects probably will not affect image quality in the least.</p> <p>A Canon 17mm FD lens, in mint condition, goes for $350-$500’ ish, without the hood. Deducting say $30.00 for the hood, the lens cost me $150, more than ½ less a “non - blemished” lens. <br> Realizing the best test is to actually shoot with it….aside from that, what do you think from my description? Keep it?? </p> <p>Thanks Gary D.</p>
  15. Dirk. That's a gorgeous shot. I just bought the Canon FD 17mm lens..arriving Tuesday ish....Hope my shots come out half as good as that one..
  16. Nice shots again Bill. I wish I had the variety of birds that u have. Around my feeder this time of year, my most colorful visitor is the occasional male cardinal. Mostly I have Junchos, sparrows and such. But that's OK....I have a feeder outside my workout room, and I enjoy watching them more than the boob tube....bland colors and all. PS Yes. Those brown creepers do not look like they are "built" for going head first down a tree....
  17. Two F1N's in my stable, power winder and a few fd lens...
  18. Rick. I new the 14mm 2.8 L was not going to be cheap (ebay)...wow ouch! ...Not to high jack your thread, but have u any experience with the FD 17mm F4? I see it (17mm) locally on craiglist for $325.00...much more palatable for me..
  19. Nice shots Rick. The widest FD I have is the 24mm. I always felt that was wide enough for the type of shooting i do...But I may need to rethink that..... PS. You're lucky. We are going to reach a high of about 15 degrees today in Connecticut...
  20. I'm jealous. You were there and I was shoveling snow :) ....I'm not familiar with that lens...But Very nice shots...Clarity is spectacular.
  21. <p>Nice shots Bill. ..More important...what do u keep the feeder stocked with to get blue birds this time of year....All i get are grackles, junchos, and an occasional male/female cardinal. :)</p>
  22. <p>Mark...What was your favorite FD...</p>
  23. <p>"""There's a new thread today where Gary's apologizing for buying another F-1. So what? Unless it deprives your family of food or shelter or some other necessity, enjoy it. Go make some art!"""</p> <p>I hope it did not come across that way...it was meant to be more toung in cheek...in jest. But you are correct. ...if the collection of anything deprives one or ones family of the necessities of life..then it could be a potential "issue"...otherwise have fun.</p> <p>I'm actually glad i won the bid on the second F1. My first one has great sentimental value for me. As mentioned, my late father in law gave it to me, and it has been on many of my mountaineering trips in my earlier years. If i can keep it going by ever needing to cannibalize the one i recently got then I would do that.</p> <p>Did i mention that I summited Mt Rainier with my F1 and the FD 35-105 tele zoom..My climbing buddies at the time thought I was nuts.....Probably were right. Lol.....Wow...I wish I was in 1/2 as good of shape now as I was back then.!!!</p>
  24. <p>LOL. Yes, and I just resurected my vinyl LP collection....I think I have "VAS" as well.....</p>
