Sorry for getting back to this thread so late. (I do not find an e-mail

option to follow a link I have contributed an ANSWER to... any idea?).

Anyway, although your proposal is quite creative and worthwhile

thinking about, here is what I think will be the effect: Every portion

of light which you prevent from hitting the automatic exposure eye of a

flash unit will make the automatism "think" that it needs to give MORE

than the correct amount in relation to the f-stop suggested. You might

be able to calibrate my polarizing filter set-up, but only to gradually

OVEREXPOSE or work at HIGHER f-stops than the flash automatism is pre-

calculated for. Which is the opposite of what I was looking for - low-

    low-level fill-in flash at wide-open f-stops.

I just ordered a Voigtländer Ultron 1.9/28 black new from Germany at a

very reasonable price ($ 500 including original M adapter and shipping)

because it has very positive reviews and is FAST. The Konica Hexar has

tremendous reviews, is more compact but a little more expensive and

opens at 2.8 only. I have considered the M-Rokkor, too, but you have to

watch out for its "white-point-disease"... Absolutely check out Stephen

Gandy's most informative site at www.cameraquest about it if you

    haven't already done so.

I have tried the 90 Summicron for a while since the 85 was one of my

preferred lenses on the SLRs, for portraiture mainly, because its

restricted depth of field effectively isolates the foreground (subject)

from the background. This benefit, which is perfectly controllable on

SLRs through the viewfinder, is predictable only by tremendous

experience with a rangefinder Leica. Adding the difficulties inherent

in focussing moving subjects with a "longer" (than let's say 35mm)

lens, I left my 90 at home by and by, just as reported by others in

this thread. I switched to a 75 as my "second lens" because of its wide

aperture (1.4) - which isn't at all easy to handle, either. But which

(in combination with all the known advantages of the M gear: optical

quality, incospicousness, silent shutter) allows me to make photos I

wouldn't be able to make with my SLR. In combination with a 35 it

enables me to make 98% of all photos I "see". (If you scroll down the

thread list you will find the "Invitation" to my recent online-gallery

    with technical notes.)

I think that M Leicagraphy is basically about "situations", "action"

and wideangles, with an option to do some mild close-ups (landscapes,

details, portraits) in between. For everything beyond (and I mean 90

and more stunning perspectives, sports, wildlife) SLRs have a clear

    edge.

Thanx for taking interest. I have two kitchen sinks. I keep one in my

kitchen, the other in my darkroom. That's where I can make best use of

them. Tell me more about your ice box and the portapotty. What do you

need them for, in your photography? Please share your knowledge with

    us.

I've always appreciated your sage contributions. ;o)

  8. Dan, the Benser baseplate is a catastrophee - you're absolutely right.

But the Leica lens holder (for just one lens instead of two) is way

more practical. You can keep it fastened to the baseplate or even the

rapiwinder or the leica winder while changing film. It has a centered

bajonet for the additional lens thus proving additional grip if you

carry a long lens with it. I love it. With this accessory plus my Sling

I change lenses in five seconds, without any additional bags, pants, or

    tabletops. ;o)

    <p>

    See it in use: http://www.konermann.net/sling.html

  9. Jay, I trust the key-chain holder, because as long as the M is hanging,

there's weight on it and it can't spring open. Anyway, there are other

quick-release solutions, too, which are equally helpful. And as for the

Shade, here's more information about it, R., http://www.konermann.net/

shade.html - it helps to reduce finder flare drastically. I'll give the

stabilizing-gizmo a thought - if you give me time til xmas... ;o)

  10. Sorry, here's another try for the front view: <P>

  11. First of all let me thank you all for the enthusiastic livelyness of this forum! I have started dropping by only recently and each visit has been most inspiring. Both, for the strict subject threads and those taking off...

Secondly, I was contacted by Deokseon from Korea who read my mentioning a cable-tie solution for a focus tab on my 50 cron in a recent thread. I made a snapshot of my M6 to illustrate what I did. On looking at this quick and dirty videograb I noticed that quite a number of stuff has been accumulating on my camera so I started to count it and comment upon it.

So rather than a question I want to share my reply to Deokseon with you. May-be it can be inspiring, may-be it can help relieve some guilty feelings like "Is there anybody else out there as crazy about accessories as me?" or "How could I do this to Saint Leica?" - well, as I mentioned to Deokseon, all of these gadgets are truely useful helpers in my way of photographing - street photography, basically. So, my feelings are quite balanced - accessorywise. ;o) But I'm curious to have your comments and read and see of your accessory-craze and all your little helpers!<P>

    Here's my quote:<P>

    Hi

Now here are two snapshots I took of my M6. This is how I keep it in my bag. (Well, actually the 35 Summicron/75 Summilux is my standard combo, but the 50 Summicron is next in order of importance and you were inquiring about it...)

    Cheers,

    Lutz

  12. I'm very happy with the Ilford Delta 400 Pro emulsion (the "old" one,

as long as I can still get hold on it) developed in Ilford ID-11 @ 1:1.

I used to shoot Ilford's XP-1 and later XP-2 for an extended period @

ASA 400 and still think that they are hard to beat as far as latitude

of exposure and resolution are concerned - and you can have them

developed at any 1 hour lab in a standard E 41 process that will give

you standardized results at any time and any place in the world! If you

want to concentrate the time @ your disposal on photographing and

scanning rather than wetting your hands, check out that combo first.

  13. I liked the tab on my 35 cron and wished my 50 had one. So I took a

plastic cable binder (is that how you call it in English? It is meant

to tie a bunch of cables tightly together with a mechanism sort like a

handcuff's). I found a black one, soft plastic, nice feel. Chopped off

the lose end - and now have what I needed for 5 cents. Next I made a

daisy chain out of 6 of them for my 75. Nice grip on the focus in every

position. Might put some pix on the net to give you a better

    impression, if wanted.

    Cheers.
