1.
If the purpose is to learn photography, dare I say it, get a digital camera. Instant feedback, no issues with film types, loading, developing, scanning inconsistencies that add different dimensions to that of learning composition and camera technique.

Get a film camera if you love the film experience. At an outing with friends and their families, I took about a hundred shots at a beer festival with a digital camera and 36 with a film camera ... everyone loved and wanted reprints from the film shots.

As for what an A1 is worth. All depends on how thorough the CLA was. I have a few A1s and sent two in for CLA, I got one back as the other died while trying to get rid of the shutter squeek.
I also agree with the other poster - the T90 is a better camera for a similar price, but is larger. The F1-new is also outstanding in use.

 2.
The only pancake I have is the MS Optical 24mm f4 triplet.

It gives images very different to my 24 Elmarit.

 3.
Same for me Brian and I dont want another login account somewhere.
I like Leica cameras and lenses, but I prefer my Zeiss Ikon ZM to my M7 as the finder is clearer, frame lines more visible, shutter speed goes to 1/2000 and it has a "modern" design for the door. I do not find the Leica removable base plate cute but a huge pain, especially for digital cameras. But I love my refurbished M3 and its viewfinder.
What I like most about Leica lenses, is that I know even wide open they are still sharper than most other brands. They are assembled and checked for quality - look at the range of results when Roger Cicala tests lenses. When I buy a Leica lens, I just buy the one in the box. When I buy anything else, I take my camera, tripod and laptop and test a few lenses outside to see which one is sharper. And yes I can see on the screen that there is a variance between them.

Saying that - I picked up a broken Contax II and Sonnar 50 f1,5 lens, which may be my favourite 50mm for the next few months. Handling the Contax was so pleasurable that I have sent it off for repairs.
So Leica were not the only company to produce high quality products, but they still do produce high quality well machined products.

 4.
Sorry Kin, I disagree. A Leica R 28-90 zoom lens was going for around $2000 5 years ago but now they are $6-7000. Same for a few other R lenses such as the 35-70 f2.8 which have gone from $5,000 when the DMR was discontinued to $16,000 now as film makers want them. I do not have either but do have a few other less desirable ones which are still more now than I paid for them. Same with my M7 bought second hand, which has made a slight increase above inflation.
They were not bought as investments but because I like the feel of well engineered devices that do as I want them to and not as some electronics engineer thinks they should do.

 5.
I am not a purist who thinks you must never assist wild animals, but I do wonder if the high sugar content of corn and fruit peel would rot their teeth? I know these are natural foods but dont know if "in the olden days" these would feature often in the diet of deer?
