    Fairy Reflections

          12

Some nice comments on this one, thanks.

I went back and redid it, cropped the top a bit and I think I like the new one better. It's in my gallery now. Athough this shot captures the soft early morning light realistically, the new one I think is punchier and yet still holds some of the same qualities.

  1. Buddy, my critique was based on my feeling of your image. Why is it that some many budding photographer wanna bees are like you? Show me your duck picture! Look, I don't often stop to comment on images, so yours must have really been bad. But why on earth would you come into my little part of the world and tell me that I don't know what constructive critique is? Look at my photos, take a good hard look at your photos and go out and do better. There's a constructive critique. I couldn't care less what anyone says should be changed in my images. They are MY art. I like it. If you like YOUR art then that's great too. But I do hope that you get better. You will. Just wait.

Oh really? I take that comment to mean that you're sore cause I was right about your image and you're just hitting back at me. That's not the way to grow. You should learn how to keep your contrast down and expose to keep whites in the image. Then come back here and tell me if you can get a huge depth of field at 600mm handheld in low light. Or tell me why it would matter. The main subject is sharp. The image does not depend on everything being in focus. You will realize all these things one day when you learn more about nature photography. In the mean time, accept criticism. Remember that the critiqer has taken the time to stop and make a very real and helpful comment. The person has tried to help you, even though it hurts. I see no reason to call a black pot white, although you might think of it as grey.
  2. I like this photo. I would have composed it slightly different, but as it stands it's a very nice image.

It's pretty obvious some of you guys are really trying hard to put digital down. Stop it, don't do that. Trust me that digital can capture a scene with reflections just like film. And when you upsize any image, it's going to show pixels. Try and appreciate an image for it's emotional reaction, etc, instead of looking at how it was made. Is it little wonder we see so many people that no longer put any comments of data on their photos these days.

    Birds over Fuji

I lived near Mt. Fuji for 3 years and never got as nice a shot as

this, taken on a clear winter day from Tokyo's north east corner more

than 100 miles from the mountain.

  3. Well done. I also notice the 4 holes with screws look like they were drilling freehand by a one eyed carpenter :-)

I like the colours and the patterns. These type of detail photos are tough to take to the next level but you've done it here.

  4. thank you for the kind words about this photo. It's one of my favs, but somehow I feel my contribution pales to the duck's colours and patterns. All of my favorites involve reflections and the background I have tried to create a canvas, a painting like feel. Nature makes it easy with so many varied and beautiful backgrounds. So I can go back again and again to the same places in different lights, different times of year and plants, and the birds also change greatly with seasons. This ducks always is moving and is very aggressive to all other ducks, even though he's a little guy compared to the Mallards he chases. I have been hoping for him to mate with a female for the past year and a half, but none appear. Perhaps one day he will get lucky, as I like to try and get a good one of each male and female of each type, then another good one of a pair together. This way I can build calendars :-)

  5. Oh wow this photo rated a 3.6.

Oh people, please forgive me but that's ridiculous. Compare this photo to any other duck photo on this site. Find me a better duck photo! There is no way I would pay for Photonet. Even if it meant better reviews. A 3.6 oh hahahaha. Like you can do better. Thanks for the person who actually took the time to leave a very nice comment. Oh never mind...

  6. I'm sorry you don't like this photo due to the lighting. That's one of the reasons it's one of my favorites. I hate harsh lighting. This one is a crop of the overall image. I'm not sure which I like better but I like this cropping. Do you really think I should be using flash or shooting at mid day? Like you said, you're really not a nature photographer. Thanks for stopping by anyway.

I just had to put in my opinion here. I don't believe an author of an image should have to provide any details of it. This image stands on it's own, and nobody should care how it was made. If it was made with a process that allowed it to look like this with no Photoshop, then great. But it still doesn't change the image one bit if it was tweaked in PS or burned by aliens from outerspace. It is a fantastic image, a very special one, and is very well done in all respects. I could see these as magazine covers. Good luck with this style of yours.

amazing photo. When I first saw the thumb, I thought it was some abstract. Full size it reminds me of some jigsaw puzzles, it would make a good one. I don't know how you kept the perspective correct shooting down like this. Did you use perspective fix in Photoshop? I appears as it would with a shifted camera.
