1.
Thanks for all the info. I really missed that one over the years.

 2.
I normally would post a question to only 1 forum, but I wasn't originally sure if it was a Pentax question or a film question and didn't want to miss someone who could help by choosing one forum vs another. After posting and seeing the responses, I finally realized it was more of a film question. Brain cramp. I wil put more effort into choosing a proper forum so as not to confuse those who may visit multiple forums. Thanks for pointing that out.

 3.
Hello All,
Was wondering if anyone could advise with an issue I've come across. My mom has a Pentax IQZoom 95S and she wanted to start using it again. As I read the owner's manual, I noticed it stated to use only DX coded film in it for ISO recognition purposes by the camera. Can anyone tell me what, if any, films are still available in this designation (color, b&w, negative, or slide) and how can I tell from either the box or on the film canister itself if a roll is DX coded. Thanks for any help on this.
Lou

 5.
I have always developed with, either, Kodak or, more recently, with Dwayne's. I have recently noticed that the Dwayne's processed slides are presenting with more of a magenta tinge. Also, the slides have been stored in an area that, maybe, would reach upper 70's on occasion during the summer. Otherwise, it would've been a/c controlled to the low 70's with low 60's during the winter. Is that enough to have caused the degradation? Will attempt to present some slide samples when I figure out how to do that. Thanks.

 6.
Hello all,
I finally discovered the shock of Ektachrome fade and bluing and would like to ask what the current recommendations are for preventing any further degradation and, if possible, to repair any damage that's been done with the passage of time before our family memories are no more. I've only ever stored the slides in B&H cubes in a B&H cube box in a room temperature dark bedroom closet. I shot Kodachrome until I couldn't and slowly transitioned to Ekta, as maybe many of you had also.
I still have a few rolls of G & VS (expired 2-13 and 9-13 respectively) and a few of 1600 (expired 2004) that I need to shoot and see what happens. Thanks for any advice/help you can offer.

 7.
Well, many thanks to all for the many comments and advice in the camera
decision. She actually had a desire for
the T3i as we walked into my friend's camera store (just to say hello as we were
"in the neighborhood" for a birthday lunch). She smiled and asked if we could
get a T3i while we were there (she's been hinting for a camera for months). I
told her we weren't there to get a T3i....but were there for either a T5i or
D5300...happy birthday! She was shocked and after saying "No, that's too much",
I told her she should do it right from the beginning so she could get more years
of use from the camera and technology (some wise folk mentioned that to me . Fortunately
the rebates helped a little and I'll just eat one or two less meals a day for
awhile to make it work.

So, she finally decided on the........D5300 with
the kit lens (my friend at the store said she'd need that more than a prime lens for
right now, as you guys mentioned), and the 70-300 VR
(which she could probably own forever). A 32 gb card, a Nikon camera bag (a
previous promo leftover that came with a dvd on starting photography with the
camera but I think it was for the 3200 or 5200 in that it said she'd need to get
a WiFi adapter!), and a Tiffen
UV filter for each lens, She's been snapping away,
reading the owner's manual (good kid), getting frustrated, having fun, the
works. Sounds like a great match. Surprisingly, she didn't have any desire for
the touch screen feature of the T5i! She said she'd been used to the functions
of her previous Nikon
coolpix so it was fine (wonder how she'll feel when
she finds out about the in-and-out of the menu she'll need to perform regarding
the AF vs the Canon where you just touch the screen on the area you want to
focus on). But she did like the bigger heavier body of the Canon more where I
thought she'd like smaller and lighter with the Nikon (she
appreciated the Nikon's weight a little more when she added the 70-300 to
the body. It's not much weight savings but every little bit helps with an anchor
around your neck). Also, funny that she felt the Nikon, where you have to push
buttons, would be more "professional" than the Canon
touch screen and that's probably what pros use. Kids often
surprise you with what they'll say, don't they.

She's been struggling in
getting the WiFi to work with her iphone since
she hasn't gotten to that part of the manual yet. She added the app to her phone
and set the camera to connect but it didn't happen. Sometimes there's no easier
way than reading the manual.

Anyway, thanks again. Your thoughts were very much appreciated.

 8.
M.P.,

That would be nice, but not in my price range sadly.

 9.
Bob,
I think the WiFi capability may be beneficial as I think about it. She would use that feature I lot, I feel.

Benoit,
I may be leaning more towards the 5300 for her as I read more about it. I have to ask (being a long time owner of my Canon AT-1 and still love it) why did you leave your Canon and move to the 5100?

Dan,
The Nikon's failures were not from rough use. She's very careful with her stuff. She got it from Walmart (with her mom and not with me!) but it was new. Just her luck she got the lemon. Nikon wound up replacing it after the 3rd repair and all was better but by then my daughter understood the camera's limitations and has hounded us for an upgrade over the past 6-9 months.

 10.
Hello All,

Time is running out and could really use anyone's help if a moment is available. Haven't posted in awhile, but my daughter's 17th birthday approaches on the 22nd and she has made it easy for us present-wise by hinting to a Canon T3i. She has been using a Nikon Coolpix (can't remember the model number, but it's about 3 or 4 years old and cost about $350 new) and has soured on Nikon because this camera has been nothing but trouble over the years (needed screen replaced, sensor repair, etc). Additionally, it had a very slow shutter response time, poor/slow autofocus, sport mode that imposed vertical streaks in the final image, the list goes on.
Anyway, she's preparing to enter college in another year to work towards a degree in fashion and she is ready for an upgrade. Needs include:
1) fast shutter response
2) quick response autofocus
3) manual overrides for manual creativity
4) possibly built-in flash? (would she be restricted to certain flashes requiring additional purchase?)
5) whatever else a young budding photographer would benefit from if frustrated with the limitations of a CoolPix without interchangeable lenses
6) maybe a 55-200 lens also (EF lenses are on rebate currently)
7) works well in low light conditions without flash
She does not know (nor do I as I still shoot slide film on my AT-1! Love that camera.) much about digital camera specs, but knows what she'd like in a camera (as we all should). So, I would like to ask, first, anyone's opinions on Nikon vs Canon and, secondly, any thoughts about the models. Probably can only afford maybe a 5200 or 5300 Nikon or T3(i) or T5(i), or SL1 Canon. Sorry am I bit behind the learning curve so any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I will post this on the Nikon site as well (in case they don't read Canon) for the Nikon view. Thank you so much in advance.

Lou
