Very nice! I would crop about 1/4 off the bottom, giving it a more panoramic feel, and sharpen and increase contrast of the mountains in the background, to give it more depth. Wonderful color!

Excellent composition and exposure. Imaginative subject. The HDR does impart a somewhat artificial (or surreal) cast to the photo, but in this case I think that adds to the overall effect and "message." Nice work, I thoroughly enjoyed the image.

  1. Beautiful picture. I like the symmetry and colors. If it were me, I think I would crop the top so that the horizon is approximately 1/3 from the top of the image. Also, I would apply the shadow/highlight tool (for example, in Photoshop) to gently brighten the darkest areas without affecting the bright areas at all. Nice work!

Composition, pose and lighting are excellent. That is the technique in this image. The art is in the post processing. One may like or mot like this, but I happen to like it. It came out very well because you used good technique. Nice work!

Nice composition and subject. Color seems a bit off, though. Was there really this much yellow in the scene? Not sure, but I suspect WB adjustment was not right. Either color cards or some other WB aid would definitely help with this. Email me off-line and I'll be happy to share with me my preferences.

Very interesting subject and outstanding lighting/exposure. I especially like the fact that you used the whole frame for your subject instead of including a lot of surrounding (and irrelevant) detail. Very professional!

Great composition. Nice contrast in the sky. Color and lighting definitely give the picture a brooding mood. I would rotate it ccw just a little to straighten it.

Lots of beautiful color and detail in this shot. I love the color in the background sky--how it goes from yellow to almost pink. Clearly this is an ancient city. One idea: if i could, I would much prefer to see this shot as a panorama using a longer lens. Three or four shots (turned 90 degrees) should do to fix the geometry of the picture, and the scene is ideal for a panorama. Just a guess but it looks like you maybe were using something like 16mm (35mm equiv.) I would shoot it as a panorama at 50mm (35mm equiv.)

  2. Sharp, great composition. The sepia tone is just right. I might be inclined to straighten it a bit (rotate it) and use a lens correction to fixe the geometry of this wide angle shot. Also, there is no detail in the sky. Was it a grey sky or is it simply a very high contrast scene? If the latter, I would try shooting it in HDR.

  3. I think I know exactly where you took this from. It's a beautiful scene. The composition of your image is excellent--esp. your use of the rule of thirds, which is often forgotten. The landscape portion is too dark, however. The brighter areas are dull and the areas in shadows are nearly completely obscured. I would selectively lighten the shadowed areas using "shadow/highlights" in Photoshop, then use the curves tool to gently brighten the entire image without blowing any part of it out. I would also try to increase the contrast in the sky/clouds. Nice work!

This is a beautifully colored and lighted image. It evokes peace and tranquility early in the morning (or late in the afternoon), and in so doing transports the viewer to that psychological place. Composition and exposure balance are excellent, with only one very dark area that could stand being brightened a little. Depth of field is excellent and definitely appropriate for this scene. My one criticism, and I'm not sure how to fix it, would be that the image seems to lack a subject. IMHO every picture should have a subject, though the subject can be something intangible. In yours it is difficult to identify any one element as a subject.

I like the color and light angle a lot. It is an imaginative composition. It would be difficult to improve imo, but possibly some detail in the shadowed areas could be brought out without diminishing the effect of their being shadows. In Photoshop, there's a shadows/highlights tool that allows you selectively to brighten areas in deep shadow without affecting areas in highlight at all. Another option would be HDR. That said, I'm not sure the result would be an improvement--I'd have to try it to see. Nice work!

Nice capture. I like to use the lens correction function in PS or LR to compensate for the lens distortion when using a wide angle lens and shooting up. The only drawback is you lose some from the top, so you have to take that into account when you shoot.

  4. Comparing this with your subsequent version that is front lit, I like this much better. It has more depth and less of a two-dimensional look. Also, the back lighting in this version makes the petals almost glow with their own light. Extraordinary depth of field for such a close shot.
