  1. Picture has a weird alien kind of feel to it (if you know what I mean). because the picture is using symmetry for impact it seems offputting to have the vanishing point off centre like that. "well seen"

I find the foreground branches too intrusive which is a shame because you've got a good clean shot of the little fella (not easy to get !) It looks a little like elements of the shot have been almost superimposed into a collage - this may be due to the scanning or jpeg compression artifacts.

I'm always a sucker for shots of corridors with pillars !

I think the bike really saves the shot from looking mundane. The light has been captured well across the range from the face of the leading pillar to the shadow detials.

Nice almost airbrushed feel to it. The surface tonality of the petals is captured well. The dew drops to the right corner look almost like an afterthought and perhaps a little cliched.
  2. Really nice shot Eric. The profile of the mountain looks like it's dipping to accomodate the moon - unusual but it adds interest compositionally. The colour is really nice - you've shot at exactly the right time.
  3. The composition I think works nicely here - you haven't been afraid to leave out the sky where you can (it's pretty flat and uninteresting). Colour and contrast looks good and realistic although I think it would look more interesting at another time of day - not around midday or early afternoon which it looks - the sun is strong and overhead.
  4. Very crisp image - almost too crisp - the contrast has started to do funny things to the distinct line edges - perhaps this is due to the scanning ? It's framed nicely but I'd try and prevent the outermost cars being chopped in half as they are. A nice summery image.

I like the idea of framing your image - I try and do it myself - but I think you've gone a bit far here - the image feels a little crowded in. There are large areas of indistinction (due to wind or PShop ?) - I think you could crop out some of the foreground grasses and get a stronger image.
  5. A really likeable photo. The slightly askew crosses are quirky and give the picture a touch of the bizarre - almost like they are jostling for position - leaning to get into the frame better. Framing is good and the image is cropped pleasingly. The effective chopping in half of the picture by the rear boundary of the grass doesn't seem to matter at all.
  6. Ray, you've got a strange pink colour cast over the bridge balustrades (is that the right word ?!) it's not clear if this is a colour shift due to a long exposure or if it's a reflection of ambient light.

I was thinking that you could have used a graduated filter to help stop those lamps from blowing out and dominating the picture but I guess the neon sign would have prevented this.

I like it. I can't help think that there is some detail missing from the black dress but it's difficult to tell whether there is any there to capture. The shadow behind is offputting. The hand hovering over the leg looks a little awkward - the positioning of hands in portraits is often something which you can learn a lot by looking at well known portrait specialists.

    It's a nice image - I like the tonality.

  7. I think a tighter crop at the top would have worked but more because it is enough to show the bends from that point down to give the same effect but with a more uniform tone from the leaf covered rocks, which look great - you didn't sprinkle some on yourself did you ? ;)
  8. I took this in the Japanese Gardens at Cowra and apart from the scan

quality (it's Velvia and looks much better on the slide than it does

here - far more punchy colours) am happy with the feel but have

noticed a loss of detail to the shadow area to the top right - it's

not a very high contrast scene and I don't think it's underexposed as

    such.
