steve_teale 0 Posted May 31, 2001 I've cropped a lot of greenery from the left side and now like the square format and diagonal through the picture. Has this worked ? Is there enough interest here or should I have concentrated on one of the falls ? Link to comment
dennis_schuchman 0 Posted May 31, 2001 Maybe I should be the last one to comment here because I can't tell you how many times I've been in pretty places like this and brought home disappointing images, But I'm learning (I think). First, the fact that you're asking if it works tells me that it probably doesn't work for you. A couple of nits-- the yellow highlight in the upper left is distracting. Also if you look about a quarter of the way down just to the right of the center line, whatever is showing through the trees is red and it's another distraction. The diagonal is good, but the main subject is the waterfalls but they don't make up much of the frame. I think this would be OK if the surroundings provided a sense of scale or place. As one example, a Japanese model in traditional dress someplace near the falls might have worked. Another idea would have been to stand somewhere at the edge of the stream (maybe to the left of the lower left-hand fall) and shoot it as a vertical cropped tighter than it is now. Hope this helps Link to comment
andrew_grant 0 Posted June 1, 2001 I would crop off the top of the picture so the waterfalls go all the way to the top. Link to comment
Brian 836 Posted June 1, 2001 I love waterfall pictures so you've got me on your side anyway. Cropping off the top so that yellow bit disappears would probably be a good thing, also lightening the whole image. The basic idea though is good. The diagonal composition works a treat. Link to comment
