Well some people like brands over the others. Well If i could afford Armani jeans over GAP/CK/Levis then i will buy Armani jeans, which may not make me appear better looking.
So as Michael rightly said you are fortunate enough to buy such thing so enjoy that. If i could buy leica i would never buy less expensive panasonic even if they are equivalant.

Well that is a great news because 35/1.8 is same as 50mm/1.8 on canon ae1 or Nikon Fe(Just for sake of comparison) due to 1.5x crop factor and those who shot from film days will 100% agree on this focal length and 1.8 aperture is classic.
I started this thread to know if nikon has increased the price or it is just temporary.

Today i was checking price at amazon for Nikon 35 mm/1.8 lens and it is now $324. Sudden raise in price?
Let's see at some other places as well over the time.

May i suggest one thing if that is acceptable to you. Take more than 1 shot. One for focus on foreground second focus on background with same aperture and shutter speeds.
You can use photoshop to merge these two shots and will get the DOF.

I am assuming many people use film for B&W pictures and digital for colors. Because they like the film effect on B&W.
There is one photographer Bryan peterson who still use film and do not use photoshop(image editor) for normal looking pictures. Where he use it that you can say photoshop was used.
May be my knowledge about Peterson gone outdated:-).

Thanks,

Well i guess it's time to stop this discussion and people are getting personal. For me this topic is closed.

Many Thanks to all of you for your views.

HI All,

Thanks for your responses and views and i just raised it for the discussion only. I never wanted to hurt anybody's feeling and i think i did not. But few people are getting personal i am just giving an example below. I never claim to be photographer but i can say that i am learning...well the same guy who wrote below statements also praised ( or sarcastically praised i never mind) for my picture. I think he is a god guy and misunderstood my post. I am just learning but even i do not recognize you(the writer of below statement) Peter lik, Ansel adam, or Marc Adamus, Jordi...

"Now after invent of digital photography most photos are heavily edited in photoshop and the effects created by photoshop..."
1. Just because you say something doesn't mean it's even close to the truth. Maybe you (Sunil) never learned how to compose and expose properly... ehh?
2. Do you print your work often or just post pleasing, sharp images to Facebook at 720 px?

Well the subject "Photoshop or photography" was intentional, i know film can be scanned and then used as digital then why film why not digital(directly).Arguably we can say that medium format film are scanned because of the high cost of the medium format digital camera. I think full frame sensor can fill medium format film.
Either process should be digital or if film then till printing it should be developed in darkroom.
I do not want to advocate any one over the other i was just saying now manipulation is more than the art itself.

Regards,
Sunil

Now after invent of digital photography most photos are heavily edited in photoshop and the effects created by photoshop(there are exception to that) are mostly not visible to amateur or normal(non professional) audience. Now there is no limit to the extent pictures are manipulated and presented. There should be some limit or not, that question is discussed to the death.
I am the user of photoshop(and not against it) and think that ground is not leveled for the film photographer. I wanted to try my hand on it(film) but i get scared of not having photoshop handy. Sometimes i think the pleasure of developing the film by myself will be so satisfying and worth it.

Thank you very much all of you for your help. I got the point that distance scale is not (very) reliable for this lens and better to confirm in viewfinder.

Regards,
Sunil

So exchange for another Sigma 10-20 mm will not solve the problem(which may not be a problem at all).
So if i have to manually focus at infinity then how to rely on distance scale, because my lens is not just going 2-3 mm but more than that.

Sunil

So what do you suggest should i return it and ask for another one, or just leave it and its not worth it?

Regards,
Sunil

Can you please elaborate?

-

Hi All,

Few days back i purchased sigma 10-20 mm lens and i heard that sigma has quality control issues so to test it i compared shots with nikon 18-55 mm lens and at 100% crop sigma was sharper than nikon. so my lens produce sharp images.

Yesterday i noticed that when i try to focus at far objects my lens distance scale shows past infinity, Is this a problem? I never used lenses with distance scale so i am not sure.
Addition - I use AF all the time, infinity mark is relevent at AF or only in case of manual focus.

The very interesting fact i have seen in each and every forum, The Nikon user think of buying canon and vice versa. Sometimes I get the same feeling to buy 5D Mark ii.
I own Nikon D5000 (Oh this is very good camera i am sure there are many more which can beat d5000. In the same price range - I am not serious).

Hi All,

I have one question regarding iso setting of D5000. User manual suggests that the base iso should be 200. As per my understanding the base iso should be lowest for better results. we all know D5000 is capable and give good result at higher iso as well but that is not the question.

My question is if i go below iso 200, is there any benefit or drawback? Did anyone suggest...

Many Thanks,

What about Sigma 10-20 mm and Tamaron18-200 MM
OR
Sigma 10-20 and Nikon 35/1.8 and Nikon 55-200 MM ( I guess you will get 55-200 with Nikon camera under 120 USD as rebate).
OR
Sigma 10-20 and Nikon 18-200 MM (it will go above 2 k)
I second to Eric's response that 50 mm on DX will not be suitable.
