Hi Stephen. I think you nailed this one for sure! The atmosphere, and framing choice work so well to encapsulate the idea of the west coast of Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia. This would probably make an amazing B&W too! Thanks for sharing this beautiful image.

Thanks Wanghan! It was one of those mornings where ZI had to shoot an urban landscape, and this one fit the bill in terms of lighting, and contrasting subject matter. Take care.

This is a beautiful shot, Wanghan. My friend and I will be in Page in about 2 weeks so we may look for these formations. Nicely done!

This is a great shot, Stephen. I agree with the others that the soft light/ good exposure allowed the details in the snow to remain. I have only 2 weeks and I will be there!

Thanks William and Ben. I am quite pleased with this image, and think I am going to look into industrial sites more in the future. I see so many beautiful landscapes (nature) on this site as well as in my photo club, and want to do something different. The only problem is I have to travel a bit to get to areas like this, but in the long run I think it will be worth it for me. Take care, and all the best to the two of you.

Thanks Alf. I had other shots very similar to this one where the hull of the boat was partly lit up, but chose this one because I wanted the focus to be on the playground, and not the boat in the background. Thanks for taking the time to comment, Alf. I really appreciate it.

Hi again, Stephen. Your comment comes at a very timely moment. I had posted this image on my Flickr account, and a friend there suggested exactly the same thing! So, I cropped the image to an 8x10 aspect ratio, and that got rid of the majority of the sky. All the best, Stephen.

Thanks Stephen. I agree that this is the stronger of the two images, and that colour allows separation between the industrial area and the playground. Take care my friend!

A color version of an earlier posted B&W image. It took me some time to
get this image to where I liked it. The light was soft and warm that
morning, and I wanted that feeling in this image. In many ways I like this
version the best because the playground elements stand out more in color,
and I wanted the emphasis on the contrast between the industrial
background and the idea of a kids playground flaking this background. Let
me know what you think bout the processing on this image. I used Color
Efex Pro 4 and Lightroom 3.

Thanks for your comments, Stephen. The blue rails run the entire length of the beach (about 2km), but there are a few spots where people can pass through, but only at strategic points, and not in any areas where people could get hurt. Having said this, there is really no stopping people from crawling through the rails at any point. I am glad that you knew where i was coming from, and shared the humor on this one, Stephen. Like I said to Ben, I should have mentioned my intention earlier, but I find that doing this can lead people in less directions! Take care, my friend.

I went to a new library with our photo club, and we were able to get in
without the public. We were given a few hours to get shots. I did not
consider this image initially, but found it grew on me because it reminded
me so much about school, and education in general. Let me know what
you think about the processing on this one.

I have always been a big fan of your images, Ya. This one is no different. I like the balance in this image, and how the movement in the water is in some ways reflected in the clouds in the sky. The only thing I am missing is a littel more contrast between the foreground and background, especially the rocky point on the left. I understand that the shelf where the water is flowing onto cannot be adjusted much in terms of contrast as the water in long exposures has this effect, but maybe a little more punch in the area I mentioned would provide just a little separation from the rest of the image. Nicely done.
Paul
PS: How long was the exposure on this one?

Hi Cornel. I love the atmosphere of this image. The subdued palette and tonal range lends to the eerie/ looming atmosphere very nicely. I know that some would say that the snow in the foreground is distracting, but I tend to differ here. I think you have included just the right amount of snow in the foreground and that it balances with the rest of the heavy atmosphere in this image. Nicely done.

This is a great image, Ya. I like the placement of the bush in the foreground, and how it creates a nice diagonal with the rock on the right. The detail is very nice as well. Thanks for sharing.

I have to agree with Larry, George. The story coupled with the composition and detail make this a very interesting image. I live in BC, and was wondering where this landform is? Is this a result of hydraulic mining? Good one!

Hi there. I like this image, but would have cropped the sky out just a little bit as the overall image seems a little bottom heavy. Nice find!

Wow! Drinking beers and playing frisbee in the fog! Sounds crazy, but fun! Glad I could bring back a memory, Cal. Take care, and all the best.

Thanks Cal. I have lived here all my life, and still find unique views in common places. Take care.

Thanks Larry. This beach is tucked a little away from Second Beach and English Bay. Third beach is on the same side of Stanley Park as English Bay and Second Beach, but more toward the Lions Gate Bridge. I have been working more and more on long exposures of the Vancouver area lately, and got lucky with the weather and soft light this day. Take care, Larry, and thanks again for the kind words.

I understand your sentiments about the sign and the visual stuff around the sign etc. I intentionally framed the shot this way as I wanted to play on the "Welcome Sign" with all its restrictions, and how this contrasts with the ides related to being at a beach, which is usually very unrestricted. I found this quite humorous. Maybe I should have mentioned this in the initial post. Anyway, take care, Ben, and all the best.

Thanks Ben. I tried B&W, and felt the color version was stronger. I usually go with B&W, but I am learning to appreciate subtle color schemes. Take care.
Penticton Lookout Benches

A shot taken just down from the top of the lookout over Penticton. This is
not an HDR image. I processed it in Lightroom 3 and then in Color Efex
Pro 4. Let me know what you think, good or bad.
