1. Walking down Santa Fe in Denver during First Friday was inspirational seeing everyone out sharing one similar concept, art. I was going in and out of photo studios of well known photographers to smaller niche photogs, I noticed one thing, they all have worked their way up that medium to share their artwork with the world. I have a ton of travel photographs, fine art, documentary work, etc., etc. I've got a month to prepare but want to station myself on a corner and try to sell some of my photographs. The budget I am giving myself for this upcoming event is $500 and I hope to at least make my money back, I know I might not sell everything and make it all back in one sitting.

For what I have read so far, Adorama has a phenomenal printing service. Besides that, I'll need mattes for the photos and plastic sheets to go over to protect. Will also need a sticker to go on the back of the photo to give a little story to each photo. I've been able to track down a few canvas holders to display. Any other things I may need, let me know what you think!

  2.
I'm looking for some solid lenses. Wide lenses are what I am looking for. 28 or wider. I know there are some new lenses that they have but I am looking to start building some sort of legacy lineup and do not know where to start. I can say 1000 is the budget but any lens around or under that would be sweet if you could share. Thanks in advance.

  3.
I have a 28mm that I am trying to sell but the person that is looking at buying it can't seem to get rid of her 10-22 to pay for it... So I posed the question to all of you fine community members if we should make a trade for lenses. If I get this 10-22, is there any market for it? And if so what kind of price should be tagged to sell that lens?
Should I even make the trade? or is the market for the 10-22 that bad that it would just be easier to get rid of the my 28 and collect the cash?

Thanks for anything help,
4.
So as the subject line stated, I am studying abroad and my biggest question is wether to upgrade more dslr equipment by adding on to my collection or jumping into the mirrorless game. I have a 70-200 f4, 28 1.8, and 50 1.4 on a 5d classic. I'm a photojournalism major at SIUC and basically have maxed out on my shooting classes.. that may be moot information. However, I was wondering if I would instead go out and buy a 5d2 or 5d3 should I spend that money on like a Fuji X series, Nikon 1 series, ect.. I think Leicas may be out of the picture sadly.
With that said, I know that I will be in a different county for the school year and I think having a big dslr might just put me in the light of having some money invested in this stuff.. steal me... That is why I am drawn to the smaller mirrorless cameras that are becoming a piece of equipment that should be owned for those days you want to be a fly on the wall. Or am I just over thinking all of this way too much?
Any input would be great, steering me in any direction whatsoever. I greatly appreciate questions, comments or concerns.

Thanks,
5.
Here's a link to a really cool combat photographers documentary if you haven't heard of it yet. It comes out Monday Nov. 5th. Should be quite interesting. It looks like they are covering a lot of different types of conflict and should aid those who want to pursue that passion of combat photog, as I hope it will for me.

  6.
I am a photojourn student and am renting a Nikon D4 body from my school currently. I have video on the XQD Sony 16gb H series card and can not figure out how to sync the camera with my computer to export the videos. The videos are for a picture story I am doing for class and cannot wait to order a card reader. I have the USB cable to plug in camera->computer but it doesn't want to register. What should I do Nikon users? One thing I haven't tried is the HDMI port, I don't have that cable but could obtain one if truly needed. I am just stuck currently.
Thanks in advanced.
7.
So I found 40 dollars in an old paypal and I have a friends birthday coming up, thought I'd buy them some camera acces. This now brings me to the question, what kind of little things would buy? Preferably from ebay.
Thanks,
8.
Look into Southern Illinois University of Carbondale. I am a sophomore here and love my photo professors. Phil Greer and Mark Dolan. Each year we do a weekend workshop where the intermediate and advanced class live in a city for a weekend and get edits from pros around the nation. This took place the last month of September and my coaches were Jeremy (J.T.) Lock, 6 time military photog of the year and Danese Kenon who shoots for the IndyStar as a staffer. Plus ontop of all of that we have the award winning Daily Egyptian news paper. It is something to look into. I really looked into Brookes when I was in high school and just couldn't justify the amount of money when I could go to a state university that has an amazing journalism department.

  9.
Alright everyone, I appreciate all of this info and wisdom. I'm going to slow down and think things through. Nearly everyone here has pretty strong points and I'm rereading everything. This was never a class assignment tho, this was strictly for personal experience. Some talked about joining a group and going to life there for weeks just to get a taste of a third world county. I'll most likely look into that. Again, thanks everyone to has posted. I haven't taken any of this personally nor do I want anyone to think they are being blunt, everyone has an opinion and everyone is voiced it.

  10.
@Sarah - Well if you would look at my PN account you would see that the pictures that were taken nearly 2 years ago. Those pictures are far under me, my "rank beginner" work one might say.. The camera? That is what I borrowed when I first got into photography my sophomore year of high school. I'm a sophomore in college studying photojournalism. I would think that I could tell a F stop from a bus stop. I'm far from a rank beginner. I have my equipment payed off from shooting weddings and other paying jobs. Your "grand proportion" is doubt.

Should I embrace the doubt from others or try to build my confidence in the goals I strive for?

I'm sorry that my PN portfolio isn't updated every shoot I do or better yet has ever been updated, but since when has someone judged because of a forum websites portfolio. Try looking up a website, a flickr, ect.. With that said, don't be so quick to judge because of my PN portfolio or my camera skills because of an old picture. I wouldn't be on this forum or let alone paying money out of my own pocket for this degree if I wasn't serious about my path in life. Also since when is it an okay thing to call someone's dream a "foolish notion"?

  11.
@Tim - That is something that I will probably look into. Thanks for the info.
@Bethe - I am currently learning the cultures of Africa as a whole, with all the subcultures. You're right about knowing an escape route, I feel that some people here think that I'm going to be possible immature about doing this. I really am wanting to go at this quite professionally.
@Jack - Maybe I worded that wrong, would you agree that doing something above you will help your career? I am looking as this as square one. After this can go about I can show people that my "young" self can do this. It can be done.
For the most part, I was hoping that I could gain more positive tips in the task I'm trying to accomplish. I know that it is a challenge, but it has been done. Who sets the standards who things that are too impossible. I'm here asking this forum for help. In the fact that it would be helpful for some people to show me a path of grants, sponsorships, contacts, ect.. Don't take that as a cry or help to do this assignment for me in any way. I'm doing all my homework too. It would just be nice to network.

  12.
@Josh - I know that not all photojournalism. Everything has its levels of difficulty and pace. I'm sorry that I did basically say all of photojournalism but I was aiming towards the risk side of things such as the conflict, crisis, ect..
@Phil - I'm not planning on going into a country blind. I am currently trying to find credentials that can help me in any way. I have some time to get my stuff together and give people my plot and see if they bite. I plan on learning as much as I can of what I can and cannot do.
@John - I appreciate the link. He's just another person added to my list of trying to contact and see if they can give me any wisdom in my goal.
