When someone sends in a camera, I assume Nikon repairs it for reselling. When they repair it, do they put in a new sensor? What is so different than new or refurbished because I can tell the price difference a tad. I don't want to purchase a refurbished and figure out it was worn in. If anyone could give me a few facts and ect., it would be greatly appreciated.

So I am trying to figure out how you can make a portrait picture, kind of, make the person jump out of the picture. The person would seem to have sharper edges and when I try doing this in CS4, it doesn't seem any different. I am trying to get the effect that is taken in this photo. This is shot with a Nikon D300, can I still accomplish this quality from a Nikon D90?
Thanks for any input everyone!

Great camera thanks everyone for their input!

Well I shoot more on the portrait, landscape, nightlife side of things.

I am trying to find out if really spending that extra money is worth some of the perks as in, should I wait till Nikon announces a new camera to the series so that prices go down. Is the $400 difference in between the Nikon D90 and D300s worth those extra spendings. Thanks for anyone's input.

You are the man Rishard Snow. You speak only the truth and that is going to be what I do tomorrow. Thanks a lot Rishard. Seriously tho, I haven't had anything explained to me like that, you sir, are a persuasive talker.

I was considering the D5000 but plan on having this body for a while so I need an AF motor in the body and want a better LCD screen. And I don't understand why it would be all to necessary for a swivel LCD screen, like on the D5000, possibly for macro photography. I don't understand why but I can't get my mind off of the D90, I am looking on buying that body but just still haven't manned up to buying it new/used/refurbished or what lens to get or possibly just get the kit lens of 18-105 f/3.6-5.6.

Okay, thanks everyone for the comments and info. This all is helping me get that much closer to spending the money. So, it would be a good idea to buy a used/refurbished or possible a new one that I would keep for a while.

Philip, thanks a lot for your comment. That makes really good sense to get that stuff. Now that I have this in mind, what would I need to shoot low light night pictures or streets?

Thanks a lot everyone!
Everyone's information is really helping me out.
So would it be a bad idea if I would get, say.. Nikon D90, 18-105f/3.5-5.6G ED AF-s VR, a tripod that can last, and possible a flash or lens or battery grip?

Yann, using the 17-55, doesn't that give you a smaller choice of area to snap a shot of, but say I had an 18-105mm would that be better?

Thanks Jake, I am looking for a nice background blur in my portraits. Very helpful stuff, please keep on feeding me with all this great knowledge!

Philip,
Thanks a lot for those tips. Really am taking that rout into consideration. Good information. So by getting the body then a prime lens, would I be able to successfully start portrait photography and wait on the landscape till I save up for either a zoom lens or a 17/18mm wide?

Thanks for the response. that actually sounds like a nice setup. I'll for sure look into that stuff. with the 50mm, should that be 1.8 or 1.4? And since I would like to take portraits, should I get a flash? and if so, doesn't the D90 have a hot-sink for the lights?

Hi. I'm just starting to get into photography and I am in a bind of what to get. I have a budget of $1200 and was wondering if it would be a bad idea to start out of the Nikon D5000 or maybe the Nikon D90. I am looking for more Nikon related models. Also, should I stay with the stock lens or jump right into more zooms or maybe a prime 50mm for portraits. I am looking to be more portrait, landscape, and nighttime/street photography. If I have any leftover money, should I purchase a tripod, remote, external flash, lenses, battery grip, lights, meters, or any other accessories? I just want the best for the amount that I can spend.
If anyone could give me any input on this shopping list, it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for taking the time and reading, now post your decisions you would make if you were me.

How to approach pro photographers to become a second shooter
in Business of Photography

Well I recently went to the professional photographer in my town (Alton, Illinois) and simply asked if there was any way that I could help. I just slave my hours in his studio watching how things are done and teaching me in other situations. If you would just simply go ask say that you are commuted what he will want you to do, I am sure you could almost always get a job as a second shooter or an assistant.
