1.
Hi Robert,

Sorry for the image quality, my digital camera is on the fritz lately. Comparing it to my Leica IIIA it appears to be the real Leica. For the price, I thought it was worth the gamble. The lens is definitely a real Leitz Elmar and is actually in pretty good condition. I will ask my sister if I can borrow her camera to try and yield some better images of it.
Where would I look to have the camera restored?

00XsFk-312385584.thumb.jpg.013b277f03de535e6bf7f7b12a236ca7.jpg

 2.
Found this guy this morning! Appears to be a Black Leica III made in 1933 with and Elmar 50mm 3,5 lens. 1 second shutter speed is a little sticky, but other than that it works fine. Lens is in pretty good condition, a little piece of dust but thats it.
3.
Thanks everyone for the help, I do appreciate it. I called around yesterday and found a local shop with a V-lux 2 in stock and was rather impressed with the zoom and light weight of the camera. I am still debating as to if it is what I should purchase or if the Canon rebel T2i may be a better purchase for what I like to do

 4.
Hi Simon,
Budget would preferably be $900 or less. Most of the photography I currently do is landscapes or of cars and aircraft that I encounter while I am at work or at different shows. As far as how much gear to carry, the less is better. This summer I picked up a Pentax 6x7 that I was using, but its size and weight are getting to me so I thought it would be a good time to try digital.

 5.
Hi Everyone,

I have been saving up for a while and am looking into getting my first Digital Camera. At the moment, I am thinking of the Leica V-Lux 1 or the V-Lux 2. What is the general consensus regarding these cameras? Should I go for a D-SLR instead of one of the Leicas?

Thanks,

 6.
I am a young man who loves to do that which isnt considered to be the "in" thing by most people my age. I would much rather use my Leica IIIA and 50mm Summar than the Nikon D3000 my sister and her boy friend use. It takes skill and understanding to make images with film. Film also makes you think before you release the shutter, something that seemingly limitless flash cards have done away with. Personally I love the look of film images more, plus the camera itself is a piece of functional art. I guess I am just an old head on young shoulders. Give me my camera, a classic novel and a glass of Scotch and I am a happy young man.

 7.
Thanks again everyone. I just tried the Kodak Ektar 100 in the Leica IIIA 5 cm Summar and I am very impressed with the quality. I will have to try out the HP5 as well, some more experience with different black white films would be good for me. Thanks again for helping out a newbie

00WSOP-243941584.thumb.jpg.6ab4f9acfeb673ec80eb9443923f77f0.jpg

 8.
Thanks everyone for the input! I have a lot of films now to go searching for. On Tuesday I am going to San Francisco and try out a roll of Ektar 100 on the Golden Gate. After that I will go to the local photography supply shop to buy some other types of films. Thanks again everyone for the help, I appreciate it.

 9.
Hi guys,
I am a relative newbie when it comes to film and am trying to branch out and find different types to use. what do you recommend for shooting in a Leica IIIa? So far I have used Arista Premium, Fuji Velvia 50, and just purchased a roll of Kodak Ektar 100. I must say I was pleasantly surprised with the Velvia and will post them as soon as I scan them in class this week.

 10.
My Leica IIIa S/N 247494 arrived yesterday! Spent today shooting with it and trying it out. I must say what a joy this camera is to use. I got a lot of interesting stares from other students and coworkers when they saw me using a film camera. The viewfinder set up will take a little getting used to, but i love the design of it. The size of the IIIa is perfect, I can slip it into my jacket pocket and carry it around, definitely cant do that with an SLR or my Yashica GSN. One question though, where do I go to find a case for it?
