Thanks! I took a "photography hiatus", but I took a trip to DC and now have hundreds of pictures to sort through. I definitely take the approach that if you shoot a lot, something will come out right, whether you meant it or not. I'm working on one now, which might be one of my favorites, that I didn't think would be any good when I shot it.
I'm going to look into B&W for this one.

Yeah, I thought that the old feel of the picture matched the oldness of Vietnam. (Started almost 60 years ago...wow). I also think that this kind of picture works better in landscape than in portrait, like the other picture.

Thank you for your critiques.

I saw a good "then & now" opportunity. Immigrants to Texas in the 1800s, and immigrants to Texas in the 2000s. (I know I'm assuming they're immigrants. They could be born & raised hear, or tourists. But the idea still stands.)

Way to take advantage of a perfect HDR opportunity. And the colored lights are a great touch.

I agree with Alf. A great example of HDR that doesn't hit you over the head with the HDR effect.

The second of my series on this little flag. While it is a different
photo, please give feedback, and also compare it to the other photo.
Thanks in advance!

This was taken at the Vietnam Memorial in DC. Let me know what you
think both overall, and with the processing.

The color is great, and the lines created by the water add interest.

You might be right...if it was a big as the totally abstract version makes it seem. You would be surprised how small it is.

Very nice second rendition! I really like the candles and Santa's beard as secondary sources of light. I also noticed that the carpet swirls...almost to point to the presents. It's a very nice touch.

I see what you're going for, but the halo effect around the trees is an issue. Clean that up and I think you got a great picture.

Great use of light.

Great use of reflection.

What a great shot! The best thing about this shot is the colors, which are vivid and well balanced. I think that the interesting perspective work well here, and the clouds/sky add interest. Good work.

It looks to me like you used a vignette and one of Photoshop's textures. I don't think the texture works here. The vignette could work, but it's not centered on the barn. I makes the eye want to look a little left of the barn. Also seems like you could back off on the blues. I'm not sure what I'm looking at on the ground. (If it's a field of blueberries or something, that's my mistake), but most of the time fields aren't blue, so it rings a little false. I would want to see a much simpler processing job. I suspect that a pretty good shot is hiding somewhere in there.

I like the sun behind the clouds, but I think it's too yellow. Were the clouds really yellow? I think just a little color balancing could help a lot on what's a pretty good shot, overall. I like the small & distant cityscape.

It looks much better now. I also have the problem that I see one image small, but another image large. The large version looks very good.

While both shots are very good, I prefer this one to the color version.
